The book’s content is centered around the notion that winning a bid simply by undercutting the competition is usually a recipe for disaster since all projects have real costs associated with them. When you fail to consider those costs and win the bid simply by being the (artificially) lowest price, you set yourself up for a rude awakening down the road. Eventually, those costs will come to reveal themselves, and you'll lose money on the deal.
The book also covers other intricate topics essential to the bidding / construction process in general — interest, taxes, insurance, and the like. It’s a fairly comprehensive read that I think most newcomers will find quite useful.
