With the perpetrators of the original crime for which he was placed in Witness protection now intent on silencing him permanently and the WP officer responsible for him chasing him down, he is hard-pressed to stay one step ahead of them.
This nail biting thriller rises to a satisfactory conclusion but leaves the door open for a follow up story which I look forward to reading.
I recommend “The Subway” and give it 4 stars only because in the early stages of the story I became a little confused by the number of characters and by the various settings/locations used.
But this one stands out with a variety of surprises and very eclectic characters: a hero, an old friend who eventually becomes a heroine, U.S. Marshals, a county police force, and a number of killers. And most importantly, the subway is not what you think.
Author Dustin Stevens ratchet-ups the suspense in this action-packed thriller, bringing us characters that we'll learn to love or (if not hate, then) to despise, depending upon which side you are rooting for!
Great dialogue, interesting story-line, and non-stop action, come together, nicely, the result being a book that is hard to put down and sure to satisfy, not only, current fans of this writer, but also, new, soon-to-be fans of this author.
Second, Most of us know how hot it can get in the south, especially in areas of high humidity. Even if one has never experienced the summer weather in the south, we should be able to understand from the author's description that it is hotter than "Old Billy H***". I feel it quite unnecessary to make this condition a second theme of the story - just way too many distractions about the swelteringly hot weather and the interminable sweating. I think we get it, that it was hot.
All in all, I would still read it again in spite of my comments here. ~
The primary characters aren't predictable but they are understandable in their goals.
As the plot thickens, it gets more edge-of-your-seat exciting. My only deduction would be for how Stevens actually wraps things up. It's still worth five stars, for enjoyment.
This is a good, solid mystery. Don't miss it.
I was quite surprised by the number of grammatical/spelling errors and occasionally had to re-read a sentence in order to have it make sense. I’m not used to errors like this in Mr. Stevens’ books and it’s one reason why this is not a higher rated review.
Nonetheless, the novel was engaging, suspenseful and the plot well done. I think the characters were well defined and stayed true to their roles. Nice action; interesting ending.
