I am usually a notorious highlighter, but in this work I have only 47 of them. Most of them being a sentence or two long, with others being paragraphs. I would say that most of what I have highlighted would be good for inspirational posters or images for social media. One of the best quotes I have is "Decide to fail at something."Read more at location 616
Meaning that stop just standing around learning everything and not implementing something. Be willing to step out and fail, but at least you will be doing something.
For me this book was a good written form to understand some of the things I haven’t been doing as a blogger and what I need to implement. He has a whole section on getting started and not just sitting around. And again he tells his readers to set goals in 90 day increments. So that way they can be re-evaluated and changed as needed.
Another powerful quote for me and my ego is found at location 648 in the Kindle book, "Every successful blogger wrote in obscurity for many months, if not years, before their audience showed up.” I am at my blog doing something to try and improve it almost every day, and still have not found my audience the way I am expecting.
There is more to this book than just how to be a blogger. He offers advice about starting an online business, and how to make it successful. He breaks down how to create an income stream from said online business. This book is packed full of good material that if you are looking to make an impact and not just for the sake of money, it is for you. IF you are only after the money this book will do you some good but the principals taught here are going to do best by those who want to help the most people.
Apart from a few spelling a grammatical errors this was a very inspiring read. I would recommend it to anyone who is a blogger looking to find new ways to change their thinking and do something different. It is my hope that I don’t walk away from this book the same blogger I was when I started it.
While Milligan doesn’t claim that his roadmap is an absolute guarantee of success, he does offer practical advice that will improve your blogging, whether or not your goal is to make a living from blogging. As with all self-help books, this one must be read with an open, but relatively skeptical mind, remaining aware that not all of the steps work for everyone. That said, the benefits of blogging, and the debunking of many of the myths about blogging are useful for any writer. In fact, one can use many of Milligan’s ideas in any kind of writing endeavor.
I received a free copy of this book in exchange for my review. I found it to be well-written, not overdone in the hype department, and useful for any reader who wants to communicate better. I don’t entirely agree with the ‘proven’ in the subtitle – nothing is ever 100% - but, the hints, advice, and traits outlined in this book are valid. If you’re contemplating going into blogging full-time, this is probably a reference you want to keep handy.
If you're looking for a heartfelt and "keep it real" way to be a success in the blogging business book, then this book goes above and beyond in explaining to you how to do just that! Along with the common things a book like this will teach you (strategies, how to make money, etc.) This book however also teaches you "In order to become successful, it starts in the mind!" This is the MOST important thing in life and business to know and practice and this book heavily teaches this. It's a a self-help and business blogging book mash-up all in one!
The perspective of "how to become successful" that is given in this book is priceless and I highly recommend you get it! I had the free kindle version, but it is so good that I HAD to get this book in my hands. So I purchased it.
It's one of those types of books where just about EVERY page you want to bend the corners and come back to, highlight in, and scan the pages to make yourself pinboard copies! There is so much valuable info and great points of reference in here, you can't just read it once and absorb it all and put it down..... you'll want to pick it up and re-read it again! Great great book!
The other reason this book has been so encouraging is that it helps to normalize the pain of to early years. I've come to better understand how it isn't that I'm doing something wrong that the traffic is hard to come by. It is just part of the building process. In this way the book has felt very empowering to me.
And, the 15 traits framework is extremely intuitive for anyone that has been in this game for even a little bit. It helps us analyze those areas of platform building that we do well and those that we need to attend to more proactively. I'm very grateful that I picked up this gem of a resource. Now I just want to jump off of here and go read the other half.
