Anna Warren's father has died and she goes home to their cabin and land, only to find Tristan Porter in the cabin. He suddenly finds a gun drawn on him as Anna wonders who would have the nerve to be poaching on her property.
Tristan Porter knew Peter Warren and deeply respected him. Tristan is a farmer and desperately wants the local university to begin a course in agriculture. He sees nothing but that.
Anna feels the Spirit of God keenly. All the time. She prays and God moves. Anna longs for hte spirit of community, too, to feel as if she belongs. She and her father freighted as a business and she never settled long enough to feel as if she was a part of a community.
Tristan carries deep pain from events in his past and has formed a barrier around his heart toward God.
Can these two find what they long for? Will they trust God to bring to pass what HE desires for their lives, even if it doesn't mesh with what they think it ought to be?
This book was just so profound and powerful that it shook me deeply. First of all, I have never, ever seen a character as humble as Anna's character was. She loves God so completely and desires more than anything in this world to do His will, to be His hands and feet. She is full of grace and mercy and her heart is golden toward God and others. The way Sondra Kraak has written this character spoke to me strongly and it has encouraged and challenged me to be better in my own walk with the Lord!
This book also deals with a great impact with a subject that has caused controversy in the body of Christ as a whole over the years. That subject is healing. Divine healing. Does God still heal today? Must we measure up before God heals? If He doesn't heal us, does it mean we have no faith or our faith is too weak? Why doesn't God heal everyone? Why do some suffer with sickness and disease if we serve a healing Gode? Kraak handles all these questions with grace.
Kraak's characters are fleshed out so well that I felt almost as if they were right beside me. They seemed like actual people to me. She has written such an emotional depth to them, it is astounding! Their growth both as people and as believers is quite amazing! You feel the author's heart as she grows both Tristan and Anna in the story.
I don't think anyone can come away from reading this book and not be touched in some way. Deeply. I know I was. Truly, this book has challenged me as a believer, encouraging me to draw deeper in Christ and grow.
*I received a complimentary copy of this book. This review is my own and my opinions are completely honest.
The beautifully crafted plot is filled with fascinating characters, especially Anna and Tristan. Anna is a young woman who loves God, hears from Him, and tries her very best to be obedient to his directions. As a result she is the instrument God uses in more than one miraculous healing. Although she always stresses that God is the one that heals, Anna soon becomes the center of controversy. Not everyone is happy about her desire to pray for the sick. Tristan, a gifted farmer dedicated to improving agriculture in the Seattle area, struggled with believing that God even cared. He too had issues with Anna’s faith and her determination to pray for others but despite himself, Tristan found himself her champion and maybe even beginning to care for her. Unfortunately, Tristan carried some secrets that could change everything.
I really appreciated the insight the author gave on spiritual gifts and how people tend to react to them. This story rang so true with some who sought her out for prayer, others who were offended, and then those who wanted to use her gifts to help advance their own ministries. So realistic! This book made me think – a lot. One thing I gleaned from this story is that I would like to be more like Anna. Not a bad goal for any of us!
I loved everything about “Such a Hope” and cannot wait for the next book of the series.
I received a free digital copy of this book from the author. A favorable review was not required and all views expressed are my own.
Her characters are well developed and the story and plot line filled with twists and turns that make it impossible to put this book down. I loved Anna! So vulnerable and yet so strong in her faith, yet the author is not afraid to show us that even those strong in their faith have moments of despair and doubt. Tristan seems to be the complete opposite of Anna, to the point where he mocks her faith and yet respects her faith at the same time. His character is quite complex and it is a real treat to see how he discovers the truth about himself.
The plot line is something I've never encountered in a story before and I really liked it. Our heroine Anna prays and people are healed, yet as the story asks - what happens when healing doesn't come? Does the town turn on you? Do your friends stay your friends? Anna finds this out and more as she struggles to come to grips with the gift God has given her and the issue of faith in regards to healing.
The only thing that disappointed me about this book, was that I'm finished it! I actually miss the characters and hope to see them again. Kudos to Sondra Kraak! She is an author you should be watching.
