Editorial Reviews

Review

"Now I normally don't read Sci-Fi and this book has left me wondering why! I could not put this down! I literally carried my kindle around with me everywhere in the hope I could keep reading... This was a brilliant book for all you Sci-Fi Thriller fans!" - Fox Cub Books

"...the story read as though it were a film. I would love to see Sudden Onset made into a movie or even television series, and I believe it could easily rival things such as the show The Walking Dead or the movie Contagion."
- Emma Brink, Goodreads

"This is my first 5-star read for the year. I was absolutely hooked right from the beginning because 1. the main character is an introverted WOMAN. Not too often do I come across books with the main character being a highly intelligent woman in her late 40s... 2. The deep intertwine of faith and science. Being taught that as a scientist you have to leave the notion of creation behind if you are to advance further in your field, however, the authors of the book illustrates that both concepts can go hand-in-hand quite neatly."
- Alana's Reviews, Goodreads

"The first thing that stood out for me with this book is how accomplished it was. At times it was hard to believe this was the debut book of two previously unpublished fiction writers." - Victoria Bucknell, Goodreads

"The main character Mira, an autistic microbiologist, was exceptionally portrayed. Being on the spectrum myself, I was keen to see how the authors presented this throughout the book. A lot of books I've read with autism representation can appear negative and show autism as a burden. The authors did a fabulous job in presenting Mira's struggles but also showing the wonderful side of autism through her character."
    - Lucy Cowell, Goodreads

    From the Author

"...This science fiction thriller is extremely well written and packed with suspense, mystery, and action... I absolutely loved the main character, Mira... As a parent of a high-functioning autistic child, I love seeing such a brilliant main character thrive." - Christine Hutton, Goodreads

Mira Wallace feels she's near the crowning achievement of her illustrious career. She only cares about one thing - determining how Life on Earth began. Maybe it's the unique way her mind works, maybe it's her lineage, which traces to famed 19th century biologist Alfred Wallace. She's spent her life studying extremophiles, lifeforms that live in the most inhospitable conditions. Now, the world needs her. Mysterious and deadly SONA (Sudden Onset Necrosis Agent), could consume Earth's biosphere if she and her team fail to find a way to stop it. As she works to avoid calamity, Mira serves as the perfect guide for us to see what it means for something to be alive.

Brothers Tom and Chris Dardick teamed up to tell the story, born from Chris's research as a molecular biologist and conversations about the intersection between science and faith over the course of their lives. The project was a decade in the making because of the rigors of the science and the detail in the story, the first in the Seed series.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Debut
By Reviewer on July 12, 2021
    3.5⭐️
So I enjoyed this book. It was vey interesting and very well written. I really like the main character Dr Mira Wallace, who is on the autism spectrum. Some of the side characters were providing a little entertainment in the middle of a scary situation. But they were archetypes and not developed to their full potential. I feel like only Mira was well developed. The plot moved fairly quickly and some unexpected things occurred. It was well paced, and kept my interest. Some of the biology info was vey technical and bogged down the pace but when Mira was explaining the biology and what she was working it was much better.
Overall it was a great debut and posed some great questions about weather faith has room in science and vice versa. I will definitely follow the authors to see what else they come up with.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic book.A thought provoking thriller that you will not be able to put down.
    By Mary B on September 10, 2021
One of the best books I’ve read in a long time. Well written as the words and paragraphs flow so effortlessly. The writer has a way with words and the content is well researched. Once started, it is hard to put down. A mystery with many twists and turns. The depth of the relatable characters draws you in to a story very believable with today’s world.
