To solve a puzzle in Volume I, I would have to do 25 separate digit maps and solve it pictorially AFTER verifying the correct pencil marks. Pictorial is the only way you can consistently spot any X-wings, swordfish, etc. Even simpler techniques can be more reliably solved pictorially on puzzles this large.
My suggestion is that these puzzles be made available on CD-ROM with features such as pencil marks, pictorial letter distribution, etc. Solving the puzzle by "radar" takes a long time as it is, let alone pencil marks, etc.
I highly recommend any of these sudoku books by Abcom and/or Sanket Sarang- just be prepared to take notes and keep careful track of what you are doing on separate sheets of paper. It is not a matter of challenge, these puzzles will challenge anyone, it is a matter of the time required to actually solve the puzzles, and any auxiliary features such as pencil marks and pictorial letter possibility distribution (where all the K's COULD go) would be very helpful.
AI Escargot took me a little over two weeks to solve and that is a 9x9 puzzle that I had to use radar on.
