Purchase options and add-ons

Whether you just wanted to start your Sudoku adventure or add magic to a long-established habit, this book is intended for you. You will find here 101 specially designed puzzles accompanied by mini-essays on a wide variety of entertaining topics. The distinctive puzzles serve as illustrations to the popular articles and, in return, the articles give life back to the objects depicted in the puzzles.

Did you know, for example, that Archimedes, unhappy with Apollonius of Perga finding a better approximation to than his 22/7, threw down the mathematical gauntlet in the form of the formidable “Cattle Problem”? And that to ensure that no one, Apollonius included, could solve the riddle, Archimedes so devised the problem that its smallest solution had 206,545 digits?

Sudoku Stories will provide you with a unique puzzle-solving experience in the company of James Bond, Harry Houdini, Sherlock Holmes, space explorers, Spanish Conquistadores, lightning bugs and electrical plugs and the rest of the 101 characters, animals and objects of note.

Pocket Edition, Black & White, Trim Size: 5'' x 8''

Oscar Seurat is a mathematician and author who worked for more than a decade at prominent Wall Street institutions and has taught mathematics and computer science at several universities in the Northeastern US.

The light blue image hints at the overarching theme of Seurat's work -- the exploration of the realm at the intersection of magic, art, and science. The picture shows the "Peace" puzzle, a single solution design from his puzzle/essay book "Sudoku Stories" (written with a co-author Olivier Nicolas).

Always fascinated with aviation, Seurat obtained his private pilot license in 2004 and has flown extensively in small planes throughout the Tri-State region. The echoes of those airborne experiences can be heard in Seurat's second book, "The Blind Bidder's Eye".

Sudoku Stories--History, Art and Science by Oscar Seurat and Olivier Nicolas pleases at so many levels. The 101 designer puzzles are presented in 14 unique subject categories ranging from Animals and Countries, to History & Mythology, to Numbers and Geometry. The shape of each puzzle coincides with information provided on that puzzle's facing page. For example, the puzzle opposite "Reinventing the Umbrella" is that of an umbrella. Opposite "The Threat to the Euro and the Unified Europe" is the currency sign for the Euro. Seurat and Nicolas have done substantial research for each page of interesting facts and ideas, and responsibly provide complete bibliographic references. I need to purchase a second book for myself as my wife, who teaches gifted and talented students, is taking our copy of Sudoku Stories to use in her classroom.
