Review

My favorite part of this cookbook are the BEAUTIFUL pictures for EVERY recipe! So far the foods I've tried both from her Blog and this cookbook are A+ recipes! My husband and children approve! She offers so many options beyond standard meals (i.e. breakfast). She also teaches you how to make Sugar free sauces and syrups! The only reason for a 4 star rating vs. a 5 star rating is because she only uses liquid stevia sweeteners with no powdered conversion chart. I had to go out and buy the liquid stevia vs. using my current cabinet of stevia or Swerve. Also, she refers to Gluten Free Flour, but doesn't specify which type (almond flour, coconut flour, or gluten free all purpose flour). Overall, I give this cookbook a HIGHLY RECOMMEND rating. --Amazon - Love2Read

Hands down the best cookbook I've ever purchased. I have made the chickpeas, ranch, ketchup, brownies, and frosting and you would never know that they don't have sugar. She has perfected the art of working with Stevia and most of her recipes are gluten free as well. I have been a Hidden Valley ranch girl for decades, not anymore! If you care at all about your health make the commitment and go sugar free, you'll be glad you did. --Amazon - Kristina Stewart

First of all, I am not a Cookbook person. I usually do my own thing, and in the past, when I tried to look up different recipes, I don't usually follow the recipe. As a Registered Nurse and a Certified Health Coach, I am very health conscious, and truly believe healthy eating is a major part of our health. With that said, I purchased this book, and I love it!! It gives a healthier alternative to cooking , it's educational, and every page/recipe begins with an informative introduction. It is so easy to follow, each recipe is labeled whether it is Low-Carb, Natural-Sugar, Sugar-free, or Dairy-Free. I love the Nutritional Information for each recipe, the pictures are great, and I have been recommending this book to my colleagues and patients / clients. It's apparent that Brenda Bennett put a lot of work into this Cookbook. It's more than just a Sugar-Free cookbook......... I highly recommend this book if you are looking for a well-rounded healthy Cookbook..... everything in one book..... it contains breakfast foods, main dishes, salads, side dishes, bite foods, condiments, beverages, and of course sweet treats (my favorites:) Enoy!! --Amazon - Creola

Brenda Bennett is the writer and photographer behind SugarFreemom.com, a low-carb, allergy-friendly food blog that focuses on fresh whole-food recipes that are free of grains, gluten and sugar. She launched SugarFreeMom.com in 2011 as a place for her family and friends to easily find her creative recipes, and it quickly became a leading source for tried-and-true low-carb versions of high-carb favorites.

With a master's degree in special education, Brenda has always wanted to help people in need. Her mission is to show others that the keto way of life can be sustainable and enjoyable. Her own weight struggles began when she was a teenager. She developed bulimia and eventually overcame it, but she realized she still had a sugar addiction that needed to be tamed. In 2008, she gave up the white stuff for good, and in 2018 she went strict keto.

Brenda lives in Rhode Island with her husband and 3 children. She is a lover of coffee, chocolate and sipping almost anything in avocado oil mayonnaise. Find more of her recipes, meal plans and other resources at SugarFreeMom.com

Vague and unnecessary instructions
I've tried 2 recipes from this book and am quite disappointed with them. I'm an avid baker yet my banana bread turned out completely misshapened and wet. Instructions were so vague, simply saying to "pour batter into loaf pan", no size of pan given. Not sure if that's part of the reason my banana bread came out badTried the blueberry lemon scone recipe, and it said to "knead the dough after blueberries had already been added. Ummm wouldn't that just squish the blueberries?! And separating the scone triangles after placing uncooked dough on the parchment...not a necessary step at all.I'll give the savoury recipes a try, but so far, I'm not impressed.

Brenda Bennett is a master at making carb and sugar laden recipes lower in carbs an even sugar free. There are a huge variety of recipes in the book. Main course, side dish, and desserts. And I do love the mug cakes and the ice cream!

I have had this cookbook for a few years and I often think that I should write a review and today is the day! I am 49 years old and this is the BEST cookbook I've ever bought. I bought it because I wanted to go sugar free, but what it doesn't say in the title of the book is that most (if not all) the recipes are also gluten free! We recently realized our daughter has a gluten sensitivity, so my already favorite cook book got even more valuable to us! Also, I emailed Brenda one time about a recipe, and she sent me a lovely response. I wanted to find a way to say thank you to Brenda, and writing this review was my way of doing so. Thank you Brenda!! Buy this cookbook... you will not regret it!

This product is great and very family oriented.
Reviewed in the United States on February 12, 2015
The biggest problem with this book is Brenda Bennett's mis-representation and use of the word "natural" for many processed ingredients that are included in her recipes. Coconut sugar, for example, is not natural. Erythritol is not. Xanthan gum is not. Brown rice syrup is not. Even powdered stevia is not natural. Natural foods can be seen and eaten as they actually exist in nature, like an apple. The substances used and recommended by Bennett have either been treated, reduced or created by humans. It follows that Bennett's introductory comments about sugars, other caloric sweeteners, sugar alcohols and flours are incomplete and well, a bit mom-ish. Better, by far, to skim through her food addiction story and the rest of her commentary, and go straight to the cookbook. This is where Bennett shines. The 194 recipes are smartly organized, beautifully photographed and yummy-looking. Many are familiar comfort food recipes that a whole family can enjoy. Some are completely sugar-free and some have the processed substances listed above. Bennett's very keen on erythritol and stevia as the preferred sweetening agent. Her other fave ingredients include potatoes, gluten-free flour, legumes and all things coconut (the new darling ingredient of Paleo people). If Bennett had titled her book as a low-sugar option for families using the least objectionable sweetening agents, I would have felt less mislead. Purists who are looking for recipes without any caloric sweeteners, powdery flours and/or foods that have a naturally high sugar content should pass on this book.

This cookbook is amazing!! If you are looking for a clear cut example on how to do away with refined sugars in your diet this is it. The recipes are made from simple ingredients that are easy to find or that you should already have in a "healthy" pantry. They are also very friendly for families with children. So many other books I have come across have great ideas, but they don't always account for children's tastes and willingness to try new things. These are familiar recipes that you have probably used for years that have been completely redone. Another great thing is that there are photos with every recipe so you know what to expect. I AM SO GLAD I FOUND THIS BOOK!!!!!

I love these well-crafted recipes which give you the expected results. I also appreciate the nutritional breakdown, the photo that comes with each of them, and that any sweetener in a recipe is usually stevia or erythritol--the only two I use. This book as a great addition to my cook-book stash.
