I eagerly began to read Sugar's Faith and was drawn into the love and chaos that is unique to Sugar and Van.
There are so many things I want to say about what happens in this story, but I fear I'll give too much away. Katie puts Van through the ringer with the pains of his past. In doing so, Sugar goes through the ringer too. There were times when their world was crashing down around them and I wondered if their love would survive. I wanted to take Van and give him a good shake; to tell him he's messing things up. The author has a knack for drawing raw emotion from her characters, and from her readers. I was on the brink of tears a few times. Of course, there are some fun scenes to break up the angst.
Katie effectively breathed life into Sugar who is an amputee, because she's literally walked in Sugar's shoes as an amputee herself. The issues and struggles come through crystal clear and Katie courageously shared another reality, other than physical and mental, that amputees have to deal with: devotees. You will have to read the book to understand what and who they are. I was shocked, to say the least.
Along with the chaos and trials of strength in this story, there is a lot of joy; especially when the story comes together completely at the end. I truly feel that Sugar's Faith is Katie Mettner's best book yet.
A perfect ending to a wonderful series.
How distracted did I get?
Sugar's Faith is an amazing conclusion to an awesome series. Faith, who doesn't struggle with it at some point? This story is about a husband/father to be struggling to keep his faith and deal with the mysteries from his past. Van has been one of my favorite characters for a while now. I felt for him as the story flew by though at times I wanted to say what the heck is wrong with you???? Once again Katie Mettner brings it home with a story that's not all rainbows and butterflies but deals with struggles and doubts many of us have in life, our relationships with loved ones and our relationship with God. Doubt happens, faith waivers but LOVE prevails.
Sugar and Van go to Ireland, where he was born and raised. They plan on a nice visit, but things do not go as planned. Secrets are revealed and memories of his childhood/past come to surface. When truths are revealed Van is (emotionaly) pushed to the edge and may destroy his future with Sugar. Will he be able to listen to the voice from the past and give Faith a chance?
Sugar and Van are put through their most challenging moment in life. Emotions run high, Van is in a new self discovery phase, which puts their whole relationship at a dangerous level. I was so engrossed and wanting evertything to work out perfect for them. The secrets revealed were shocking and compelling. Sugar's Fatih was very emotional and renewed my faith in; love, marriage, family, self discovery and spituality. A must read.
I fell in love with Sugar and Van in the first book of this series, Sugar’s Dance. In fact I loved all of Sugar and Van’s extended family. I’ve ‘watched’ them face some incredible situations together; situations which would have broken many other partners, but somehow they came out on the other side stronger as individuals and stronger as a couple.
“Faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see.” Hebrews 11:1
Both Sugar and Van’s faith is tested during this book. If you want to know how and why, you need to read this book but I really think you should read the other books first.
When I came to the end of Sugar’s Faith I realised that when I read Sugar’s, I mean Katie Mettner’s, books I find something or several things that resonate with my own life. This is one of the many reasons why I loved this series.
I gave Sugar’s Faith 5 stars.
