When the Duke of Silchester’s heir decides he must marry a wealth lady from a suitable background, unsurprisingly there are no shortage of candidates for that position. Grace is not one of them but is forced by her middle-class, ambitious father into attending the duke’s house party. Grace plans to use the event to find a husband – just not the one that her father is hoping she will attract.
Bennett Sheldon finds himself either furious with Grace or fiercely protective of her independent spirit. What he must not do is fall in love with her and risk the duke’s ire. Naturally, he does just that, leaving him to choose between his family, his position within society’s ranks and the woman he has lost his heart to.
Lots of twists and turns in this insight into the way the English aristocracy protects its own.
A fun read.
I found the writing, especially the dialogue stilted, especially at the beginning, but I gradually got drawn into the story. Overall I liked the story and it kept me reading, however, I found the repetition of plot (she is leaving, she is staying, no she's leaving, actually she is staying and so on) distracting. The characters were also very two dimensional which is a real shame, as this could have been a five star book if more time had been taken to make the characters real. It would also have made the dialogue less stilted. I was also disappointed in the ending. I would have liked one more in keeping with the 'innocence' of this genre. The book itself is a clean read, and I think a more traditional ending would have suited her story much more than the one she chose to go with.
So would I recommend this book? The story itself is original compared to many others in this genre, so yes, for that reason I would recommend it.

Ms. Miller adds all sorts of complications to the love story, with the house party from hell as part of the journey to HEA. Bennett is a divine hero, because when he finally decides to love he is even willing to buck his brother, the Duke. This story can be a bit uneven at times and ends rather quickly, but the fire and spirit of Grace keeps us interested along the way. She and Bennett deserve their happy ending.

Grace DuPont was a heroine who spoke her mind and did not care to be part of the ton. Her father made his fortune in trade and wanted to get a foot in the door with the aristos. When the opportunity for him to pull some strings to get his daughter invited to a house party at the Duke of Silchester's, he forces Grace to go. Bennett Sheldon is heir to the Duke. Their father left the coffers empty and since his brother does not want to mary, he's willing to sacrifice his freedom and find a wealthy wife. Hence the house party. From the get go Bennett and Grace have a connection. Whether it be anger or attraction, these two fall in love. According to his family, she is unacceptable. She leaves him because she loves him and doesn't want to get between him and his family. They are both heartbroken and can't stay away from each other. They reconcile and all is merry.......**** I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
