Editorial Reviews

From the Author

For centuries before the Catholic monarchs conquered Granada and claimed its beautiful Alhambra, a diverse people ruled Muslim Spain. These are their stories.
  1. Why should readers pick up Sultana: The Bride Price? The hero and heroine are based on historical figures who endured betrayal, death, and reversals of fortune along with personal triumphs. Their history was everything but boring.
  2. Does this sequel immediately follow the events of the previous title? Sultana: The Bride Price begins within two years of the events of Sultana: Two Sisters and wraps up the storyline of the heroine and antagonist of that 3rd novel in the series, while exploring relationships between their descendants.
  3. How much of this novel is true? Dates and major events, the majority of the characters' names, and food and clothing are historically based. The heroine's name is not; history does not record her actual name. The level of personal antagonism between historical enemies is uncertain, but history speaks volumes.
Sultana: The Bride Price takes place in fourteenth-century Moorish Spain, during the turbulent, but glorious reign of Sultan Muhammad V of Granada. Muhammad was the only son of Sultan Abdul Hajjaj Yusuf I and his first wife, a former Christian captive who bore the name Butayna. This novel is a fictional account of Muhammad's rule, and the difficult relationships he encountered with his spouse and his half-siblings, the children of Yusuf's second wife Maryam. It is a direct sequel to Sultana: Two Sisters.
