About the Author
Award-winning novelist Irene Vartanoff fell in love with comic books as a teenager, at the same time she discovered romance novels. Her fan letters to the comics editors caused such a sensation at DC Comics that she was written into several comic book stories, most memorably in The Flash and Metal Men. Whether she really existed became an ongoing controversy in Metamorpho. Irene plunged into writing comics, while voraciously reading romance novels, classic adventure novels, murder mysteries, and nearly every other extant genre in which the good guys triumphed over the bad guys. After a decade in the comic book business, including significant staff positions at Marvel Comics and DC Comics, and seeing some of her comic book stories in print, Irene moved on to work in the burgeoning romance novel field. Irene gave the editorial thumbs up or thumbs down to thousands of manuscripts at major romance publishers such as Harlequin, while also providing romance writers detailed critiques of their unpublished work, giving speeches and seminars at romance writing conferences, and writing many nonfiction essays on the creative process. Irene combined her lifelong passion for comics and romances during a stint as story editor and frequent writer for MyRomanceStory.com, producing online graphic romance novellas. Her interests melded again when she wrote her first novel, Temporary Superheroine, a comic book–inspired adventure with a touch of romance and plenty of good guys versus bad guys action. Today Irene writes superhero action adventures that address comic book industry issues while humorously utilizing classic old comic book tropes. She writes contemporary romances in the vein of classics-with-a-twist, exploring storylines that have troubling relationship dynamics, while providing credible modern resolutions. Her first sweet contemporary romance, Captive of the Cattle Baron, is an abduction story with the kind of surprise ending that makes readers cheer. Her women's fiction novels delve into issues that today's mature women face with family problems, including dementia, estrangement, long-held secrets, infidelity, hoarding, life-threatening illness, and more, but always are uplifting and hopeful. Irene is also working on fine tuning several oddball paranormal novels, including a lighthearted chick lit fairy story, a baffling mystery at a major opera house, and a murder mystery taking place during a trip to Machu Picchu. There's a lot more to come.
