The story takes place in Athens over five consecutive days. We are introduced to protagonists from different nations and various groups, e.g. European Commission, IMF, ECB, Golden Dawn (ultranationalist, far-right political party in Greece) or journalism. They are visited by Greek gods, who haven’t cared for human issues for the past 3000 years. The gods convince them that the current way to deal with depression and other problems isn’t expedient. They want the humans to look for new solutions to get positive results that don’t just benefit rich people and economic systems but everyone.
Of course, it’s not as easy as you might believe after hearing that higher beings suddenly interfere in people’s lives. For one, humans wonder whether these gods are truly real. Then the question arises whether their meddling is justified. Do they force their opinions on humans or do they allow them to make their own decisions? Also, the gods are quarrelling among themselves, which causes one or another problem. Nevertheless, the book shows how people can reconsider and change their opinion after getting glimpses of other perspectives. It further shows how the protagonists confront other people with their new insights and prompt them to contemplate and rethink their views, too.
An entertaining reading experience that impresses with fast and clear shifts between the perspectives of the different protagonists. Overall rating: 4.5 stars!
