We had a Houdini preemie - she'd weasel her way out of her swaddle and wake herself up... until the Swaddlepod. This helped to calm her down to sleep and while the neck still allowed her to occasionally pop a hand out, she stayed asleep. We also loved the double zipper for middle of the night diaper changes! A few tips for parents that we wished we had known about:
1) When the baby is tiny (under 7 pounds), the Swaddlepod works more effectively if you put it on over a sleeper. Just putting your pumpkin in a onesie and a Swaddlepod will allow hands to escape. Once your baby chunks up a bit, you'll find it's easier to keep him/her snuggled up in a Swaddlepod.
2) Buy two. Or three. It's inevitable that baby will puke (oh, not my baby!), and you'll want to swap out your Swaddlepod. We found that the Swaddlepod stayed wet around the neck and was uncomfortable for her until we replaced her Swaddlepod for a fresh one. (And truly, as they are relatively inexpensive compared to the Woombie, it behooves you to buy at least two.)
3) Start investigating what you'll do after you've reached the weight limit for this nifty item. She is reaching the weight limit for this product and while she's now fitting into a Swaddleme, we wish that the company would make these in a larger size. (In fact, we've had several friends and relatives joke that they wish the company made these in adult sizes...)

I can't believe this product is still on the market! There should be a "0" star option! I happened across this page while searching for a new sleep sack and felt compelled to warn other parents of my experience! I actually complained to the CPSC and had a CSPC investigator come to my house about it after my experience in 2011. I started using this with my son when he was a few weeks old and weighed over 8Lb so was well within the size guidelines for the product. He was able to break out of a traditional swaddle with a blanket but still needed the comfort and security of a swaddle to sleep. I was going to buy a woombie but saw this at BRU and decided to try it due to the much better price tag. The first night was fine. The second and third nights he was able to wiggle his hand through the opening to suck his fist but was OK. The next nap I found him crying after getting his arm up through the hole and stuck up along his head, with the neck opening pulling tightly across his throat (tight enough to leave a red mark!). I stupidly (incredibly stupidly, in retrospect!!) tried it one more time and was awakened that night to sounds of him struggling and found him with the swaddle pod pulled up over his face and head. Every medical and safety authority tells you not to let babies sleep with loose blankets because even thin ones can hinder breathing and have been linked to SIDS. The neck opening on the swaddle pod is FAR too large for a newborn and makes it easy for the baby to get arms stuck or pull the material up over its face/head. I ended up being given a woombie and that design is far safer.Read more ›

Prior to having our baby 9 weeks ago, I had never seen this type of swaddler. Someone suggested the expensive alternative to the swaddlepod, and because of the reviews on here, I went with the expensive brand first. The expensive brand worked well, but the first night that it was in the wash and we needed a second in the rotation, sent me searching to buy a second one. I want to be upfront that our baby has preferred to be swaddled since day one.

This swaddlepod is thinner than the expensive brand. So far that hasn't been a problem. In fact i like that since i can put a light cotton sleeper on the baby, and she doesnt get to hot with the swaddlepod on. The temp seems just right. With the more expensive brand, I didnt feel comfortable using more than a onsie underneath. I did not start using this particular swaddlepod until my baby was 5 weeks old, so keep that in mind. She was probably 9 or so pounds by then. The more expensive brand has a tight neck area, which I understand is to prevent baby from getting his/her hands out, but it just seems too tight to me. I did have it zipped down further like they suggest, but I was still paranoid in the night that it would be uncomfortable to baby. The swaddlepod has a more generous neck opening and it definitely set my mind at ease about any possible choking. My baby is just now, at 9 weeks, trying to get her hands out. The swaddlepod pod gives her the security she needs to keep her arms from flailing in the night. While it could be her personality, she has been my best night time sleeper out of the six kids I have, and I attribute a good chunk of that to the swaddlepod. I wondered how the swaddlepod covered the zipper, since that wasn't clear on the picture.

We love the Swaddlepod. Our daughter is constantly flailing her arms while sleeping, which wakes her up. This keeps her contentedly contained and doesn't let her wiggle her arms or hands out like other swaddlers do. The double zipper is great for diaper changes. We have another "name brand" product that is similar, but you have to start the zipper every time, which can be challenging with a wiggly baby. The Swaddlepod is great and zips right up without hassle everytime. I just wish they had the next size up! Our baby is big, and she is already starting to outgrow hers at 2 months old. I would totally buy one that was just a tad larger to last her a few more months. It has been the ticket to sleepful nights :)
