This particular gate uses four mounts that you screw into your walls. The gate itself can easily be detached from the mounts after installation in case you want to temporarily remove the gate. Another comment indicated that your baseboard may get into the way during installation. This is true. You do have the option of cutting the baseboard, or do what we did, mount the gate just above the baseboard. This was suspended less than three inches for us, so no child could get their head stuck in the gap. The only thing that it did was make the gate a little flimsy, being suspended in the air like that. It works for now, and I can always change it later. It would seem more sturdy if the bottom bar laid on the floor all the way across the opening, as I believe that is what it is designed to do. Screws for mounting seem a little short, if you take into consideration the thickness of your drywall (in case you want to screw into a stud). I used a couple of deck screws to mount the brackets onto one side of the wall that would insert into a stud. You may want to locate a stud in your walls on at least one side of your opening for better stability. The other side is mounted in drywall for us with the provided plastic inserts. The latching mechanism can be unlatched with one hand, but you really need two hands to re-latch it. Unlike the narrower version of this gate, the door is not spring loaded, so it stays open where you leave it. It swings open to either side of the gate. Color is brown. The narrower version of this gate is in white. Again, we have both. We expect the gate to functionally work for us. If you have wooden floors, you may want to run a rubber or one-half of the velcro tape (the soft side) underneath the bottom bar to prevent scratching your floors, as the unit shifts slightly upon use. Good luck with this gate.
Pros: Sturdy, metal, easy to install, will probably stand up to a few years of abuse, easy to open and close, adjusts to fit a good range of widths fairly easily. Top wall brackets swivel down to make removing the entire gate the easiest I've dealt with. Fairly wide gate opening so you don't have to side-step through it.
They were not 36" tall all the way across. Only the hump that makes up the actual gate is 36", the rest of the gate is 33" tall. Not a deal breaker, but the claim that it's a 36" tall gate is a bit loose when 75% of it is 3" shorter.
Also, the brackets that attach to the wall are plastic, while the bolts that attach the gate to the brackets are metal. With an 18mo and 3 dogs, I'm not sure how long they'll stand up to abuse... but they seem sturdy enough.
Although it states that it'll fit a 72" opening, it falls an inch or so short on that with the bolts extended almost all the way out. Luckily I was already installing two 2" x 2" posts on either side to mount into so that I didn't have to drill into my tile baseboards.
Some of the reviewers claim that the gates aren't very sturdy (wobbly) when you have them extended out to the full width, but I'm not sure how rigid they're expecting a gate to be (or what they're trying to keep back).Read more ›

Fits great in our oversized doorway. REALLY easy to put up & take down. You do have to leave up the latches but they don't stick out and they aren't very big. Very solid.Published 18 days ago by Amazon Customer
Wish it did not feel so wobbly, but i have it where it has support from the last step so it works.
It is sturdy, it just feels wobbly.
