We got 2 of these, one for the entry to the kitchen and one for the base of the stairs. Up stairs is just a bonus room. It really is one hand opening and it closes and latched by itself. We have had these for months and have no regrets. I recommend these to anyone with a baby or even a pet. Installation was pretty easy, directions were easy to follow. You have to tighten it up every couple of months or so but it only takes 30 seconds. The best part is you don't have to drill into your wall and it does not leave marks either. It is really stable, our 18 month old holds onto it and shakes the door to it. It does not budge...totally solid.

Just got this at Buy Buy Baby with 20% coupon or otherwise I would have gotten it from Amazon. I was actually hesitant on buying this gate given the split 5 star reviews and the 1 star reviews. Well, I am glad I took the risk because I strongly believe that after installing this, it is pretty solid. I mean, I don't think it will hold any kid who intends to get a running start and has his/her mindset to knock the gate down. Furthermore, if your kid is on steroids, then yes this nor any other gate will not hold. FYI, I didn't screw in the mounting cups into the wall because I didn't want to ruin my wall for something I will probably only have for a couple of years. Now for those of you super OCD paranoid parents thinking that a stupid damage drywall is not worth a toddler getting injured, I will argue that the pressure mounting system is just as good. Granted the screwed in cups are more secure but you're looking at a minimal difference. Another thing is that as I am pre-setting the gate, I am actually LEVELING both sides as well as fore and aft to make sure every angle is plumbed. Takes an additional five minutes but if everything isn't leveled, you'll have a difficult time adjusting the pressure mounts and therefore create uneven mounts. For example, if your tightening the top right mount and you level it and you find that the bottom right needs to go out further then you tighten some more until the whole side is leveled. You repeat this on the left side as well. Finally when you have everything plumbed, you now slowly make incremental adjustments to both top sides until you can open the latch anymore. Thereafter, you should back off half a turn. The good thing is that the gate includes a nifty tool to tighten the pressure mounts.Read more ›

Works great and much more elegant looking than most baby gates. Definitely a step up from the dinky accordion style one we were using before. I know one complaint is that the door can't be propped open but this is easily solved by adding an eye hook if you don't mind drilling into the frame a bit (see photo). We're using it for four legged babies instead of the human variety so being able to prop it open is definitely preferable. Overall, a nice gate.

I'm a mother of very active twins and we've tried several other gates but this one seems to be the sturdiest so far. we've had it for a couple of months now and thankfully it has been doing the job. there have been a few occasions when they have been able to push the door open but that is only in the case that you do not make sure it locked and "clicked" into place.

I have been using this gate for about a year. In our prior home, we used it to block off a hallway, and in our current home, we use it at the entrance of our toddler's room to turn it into a huge crib/Montessori room (yes, we have a baby gate at the top of our stairs, too).

I am actually quite surprised by the number of negative reviews for this gate because we have found it to be excellent. Here is my comparison between this gate and the Kidco gates we use. The 3 types of baby gates we have are:

1. Kidco G15 gate at the bottom of the stairs
2. Kidco G20 gate at the top of the stairs
3. Summer Infant Deluxe Wood walk-thru gate in the doorway of my son's room

TOP OF STAIRS INSTALLATION: The Kidco G20 gate at the top of the stairs was very difficult to install because our stairs have bannisters on both sides, which I expect would be true of any baby gate in my set up. The Kidco G20 gate has no bar on the bottom to trip on, however, my 21 month old son is able to squeeze under the gate and merrily make his way down the stairs.

PRESSURE MOUNT INSTALLATION: We have the Summer Infant and the Kidco G15 gates pressure mounted and were easy to install. Both gates are very secure. With any pressure mount gate, you have to make sure there is ALOT of pressure. At first I thought the Summer Infant gate was going to snap before I could tighten the installation bolts enough for the latch to engage. But that didn't happen, and it ensured there was enough pressure that our son didn't knock it down (its ALOT of pressure).

READJUSTMENTS: We have to constantly re-tighten the bolts that lock the Kidco G20 gate because it tends to loosen with use. No big deal, and I think it is always a good idea to check the security of all the gates.

This is a very well made and easy to use gate. It has the extensions if you need to make it a little bigger and holds up to children standing on it. The foot peddle comes in very handy when your hands are full. However when the kids get older, they do learn how to jump on the peddle to open the gate.
