I just started using Summer Solutions, and have found that if I use just one capful of product that the chlorine smell is removed from my swimsuit. The product has no scent, which leads me to believe that the chlorine was neutralized, and not just masked. (I sure hope so!)
Update, April 2014:
Despite the fact that this product seemed to work just fine, I really could not reconcile the fact that this costs WAY more than aquarium water conditioners, and both kinds of products exist for the SAME purpose: removing chlorine. I swim three times a week, and it was annoying how fast I went through the bottle of Summer Solutions. Therefore, I switched over to API Tap Water Conditioner, 16-Ounce which is much more cost effective, and works perfectly for removing chlorine from my swim suit. It only takes a few drops in the water in the bathroom sink, and voila, the chlorine scent is completely removed, and the dye/fabric of the swimsuit does not seem to be harmed in any way. Only a few drops are needed because one capful of the API product treats twenty gallons! API Tap Water Conditioner is currently $5.99 for 16 oz.
I follow the advice of the blogger and have a regular suit maintenance routine: First, I always rinse my hair and suit before getting into the pool. Apparently this helps to keep the suit from absorbing so much of the pool water - I have no idea whether this is true or not, but do it anyway. Then, after my swim, I rinse it off in the shower. I always have a gallon freezer bag with me, in which I pour two capfuls of the solution into, then fill it about halfway with fresh water (from the shower) and then place my swimsuit inside the bag and let it soak while I finish showering, drying and dressing. Once I am ready to leave, I pour out the excess water from the bag (and gently squeeze the bag to get water out of the suit) and leave my suit in the bag until I get home. Once I'm home I promptly remove the swimsuit and lay it out to dry on a towel. **I stopped hanging my suit to dry, because I found that this can stretch out the fabric due to the water dripping/pulling on the suit**
It's incredible, but the chlorine smell is absolutely gone - and the suit still looks and feels new! My only wish is that I could buy it in a bigger bottle - because I go through it relatively quickly with as much swimming as I do.
The cleaner does neutralize the chlorine smell, and leaves a fresh, clean smell. I also like that I don't have to rinse it out; that's a definite plus for me.
The negative is that we have up to six swimsuits to do, so this 8 oz. size doesn't go very far at 2 capfuls per suit, maybe 2 weeks at most, if we swim 3 to 4 times that week. I wish I had known that to begin with...yet this was a larger size than other products.
I'm also not sure if it has added much longevity to the swimsuits, as one pair of lycra shorts (always hand washed and dried) has now stretched to the ground just like the ones I did wash in the washer.
It was here quickly, and I like it very much. This is my experience with it.
