**update** Six months after the first brine tank dosing and filter replacement, the filter was checked and found to be in perfect shape. Not a hint of iron contamination. The Iron Master softener is still working fine.**
After ONE treatment (as directed on the container label) the water quality was greatly improved. Sorry...no 'official' grain numbers, just Mom saying, 'It's much better!'
After three more manual re-gen cycles (24 hours apart) and a few weeks of 'normal' use, 'Mom' says 'It's just fine!'
That's a better report than any grain number from a test unit!
This same unit had the bed replaced some years back due to some other malfunction. That cost was well over $1000. This product was a WAG, something to try on a known bad filter bed.
A maintenance dose has been added with the last salt replenish, as per instructions on the bottle.
This is good stuff!
I found this on Amazon and bought one--dumped in the recommended amount, ran the cycle a couple of times--and like magic the grit accumulation slowed way down. It couldn't work its best because the salt level was pretty high. After the salt level got down, I added the recommended amount and now, no more grit!!
Works great, easy to use. The only annoyance is that there is not two full treatments in one bottle--you have to buy to two bottles. But since we will be using this regularly, it isn't that big a deal.
What it does: you add this to the brine tank (follow instructions) to help regenerate your softener. It reacts with iron trapped in the softener, removing it, and leaving the softener better-able to handle your water load.
I used this on a softener in the house we bought, I'd guess the softener is over 5 years old. While it did not completely remove iron effects from the water, it made a huge difference.
Combining the recharged water softener with aggressive sediment filtration DID take care of the iron effects.

This worked very well for us. We have good water but it's high in iron. We got a new well and cleaned all of our softener equipment with this. It really helped a lot.Published 23 months ago by Christine Coulter
Besides using it for removing minerals from my water softener, I've found it VERY useful for cleaning and "passivating" brass items in an ultrasonic cleaner.Published 23 months ago by Richard Ogden

This syuff works great. A bottle was included in our house when we bought it. I ran out and couldn't find it at the store so I let it go for a while. Big mistake! Read morePublished on October 21, 2013 by M
