I have yet to encounter a Betty Neels romance book that I did not like. I love them all. Predictably I cannot put it down until I have come to the end and her books always leave me wanting just a little bit more. I am working my way through all of the Betty Neels books. Sun and Candlelight is no exception. Enjoy.

This is one of my favorite Betty Neels novel.

I especially love the way that Sarre and Althea's story unfold. In the beginning (spoiler alert) Sarre 'rescues' Althea from an awkward situation and their story begins there. It's heartwarming and romantic, just as Mrs. Neels does in most of her novels. One of the charms of her books is the gentle romance in all of them. After I read this, I just sighed with pleasure. It's a great read so enjoy.

I have read a lot of Betty Neel's books and this is the first one that blended more real life then most of them. The characters were a little to much laid back but the store line was a typical of the author's writing. It was not a book that I had a problem setting down until the ending and everyone came together as they always do. But a good read and as always enjoyable.

When I need a nice little feel good story with a HEA. I can usually count on Neels for one. The preview is accurate , but I really liked the characters and the pacing was just right. As much as I love her style, sometimes the plots drag and some of her heroes are blah. This one was just the way I like them.

Alethea - who for whatever reason reminded me of Holly Golightly - is expecting a proposal of marriage. Unfortunately, she gets asked away for the weekend. Upon informing her near fiance' that she is not that sort of girl, he walks out of the restaurant without paying the bill. With all eyes on her, she finishes her desert and coffee hoping he'll return and knowing she has no money to settle the check. Sarre takes pity on her and leading a light-hearted farce for their audience pays the bill. She truly loves Nick and makes excuses hoping he'll still return to her. She meets Sarre again at the hospital where she works and he convinces her to marry him and be a mother to his children. Since Nick has moved on and is seeing other women she agrees. Ms. Neals writes wonderful romances all bent on teaching women, young and old, lessons in love, life and relationships. One important thing she teachs men is never use another woman to try to make a spouse or girlfriend jealous. How a man means to go on is not often how a woman interprets the situation. In other words, the situation is doomed to backfire. Eventually, Alethea wins over Sarre's children and Nanny. Because she is such an honest girl, and knows she has nothing to lose she confronts him and tells him she loves him. He, of course believed she was still in love with Nick, is overjoyed. In the real world, each would have gone on to repent at leisure thinking about what should have been said.

I have been buying Betty Neels books for my mother (in her 70's) at her request, as an introduction to using a Kindle. I can say without hesitation that she loves all of these books. As she has said, "The plots may all be somewhat similar and the stories quaint, but I enjoy them immensely and find them endearing." What better recommendation could there be? And the Kindle Paperwhite? She loves the backlight and the ability to make the font larger.

I ALWAYS ENJOY A BETTY NEELS book! She was a truly GREAT story teller. Quaint and qualified, her books take you to unknown sites and the reader is transported to tea and scones, as well as romance.
