Used to break up some moderately stony soil, stopped working after about 10 minutes. Nothing too strenuous, so I was quite surprised. Not impressed.
Contacted Sun Joe and was told my model (13.5 amp) was out of stock, so I could get a temp 12-amp tool or wait a month and half for the replacement 13.5 amp. I was fine with waiting. Six weeks came and went. Three followup emails to Sun Joe ignored over the next 6 weeks. So next year, I'll be looking for another tiller. No point in having a 'help' email if you aren't going to answer it.
Addendum, 11/27/2020: a little while ago I decided the warranty period was long gone, and I had nothing to lose so I opened the top of the tiller up. I immediately saw that one of the electric leads had come loose. I reconnected it and added a little bit of solder to make it stick. Worked like a charm. I should have thought of this sooner, but I guess I thought that the problem would be more substantial (and I'm not particularly skilled in this type of thing) - seems like a bit of a QC issue, but OK.
This summer I used the tiller to loosen up a part of my yard to prepare for grass planting. Fantastic device for light to medium work, say loosening up the top 4 inches or so of soil. Tough as nails, deals well with my stony soil.
As recommended elsewhere, I reinforced with hose clamps to give the device some sturdiness. I can also see that adding 10-20 lbs on top would help you to work deeper and with better control, but I didn't do that.
I've added 2 stars for a total of 3 since it's really a great tool for the price, but I'll keep one star off for the customer service and one for the QC issue. YMMV.

This came delivered yesterday and took all of 20 min to assemble. I put in an hour yesterday right after I put it together and 30 min so far this morning. The video is of this mornings work so far. The video clearly shows the beast this tiller is. It's dislodging river rocks some of which are the size of small melons. There aren't many reviews to show the power of this tiller so felt the video would speak for itself. It does jummp around if your soil is rocky. And the switch isn't in a bad place as far as I'm concerned but I taped it down to be able to handle it while in operation. I loaded a cinder block step to help weigh it down based on the suggestion of another reviewer. As you can see I'm a muscular, powerful person, and I'm having to manhandle it. It's worth every penny I paid!

Our house was built in 1944, so this house has had other owners. The soil in California Heights is clay and to compound our efforts to grow grass, a previous owner poured one inch river rock all over the sides and backyard. The rock works well for area's you don't want grass to grow but cannot understand why it was also poured in the backyard? 2010 I rented a industrial tiller but due to time constraints was not able to fully amend the soil, you can only do so much in one day. I should have rented it for few more days. So, I decided to buy a small tiller and see what I can do. I decided to do the backyard (since I have plenty of time) in 1/3 increments, see picture. I am totally impressed with the performance of this tiller, it goes fairly deep in two forward and two back motions on a 10 foot long lane. Move it over 12 inches and repeat. I was able to till a 20 x 20 section of the backyard 6 inches down in 3 hours (took lots of water breaks). Today I will till in 6 yards of soil amend plus 3 bags of sand. During the initial till I removed enough 1 inch river rock to fill a 40 gallon trash container. I would till a 10 foot section, turn off the unit and go rock hunting. The tins on this unit held up and didn't buckle or break. Really, I had considered buying replacement tins BEFORE I started this project as backup. Happy to say that will not be necessary. Cleaning was easy, I just used compressed air and blew off any dirt. I did soak the ground the night before but because it is clay and full of river rock, only the surface was wet. There are only two bolts holding on the tins. The bolts and nuts are 14mm and a impact wrench was needed because they are torqued on pretty tight. My breaker bar indicated it was 80 foot pounds of torque applied to the nuts. My only complaint: that On/Off switch. It is a 10 amp, wired normally open micro switch coupled with a interlock release button. Suggestion, move this switch to the middle of the handle grip so two fingers can be used to hold it down.

I used to work with a motorized cultivator (30 years old). I did not like it. This one is electric, but has a powerful motor and thin blades that makes it really powerful. I used it in my garden with hard earth and many rocks, works better than expected and definitely better than my old motorized cultivator. I tried it on my grass, just to see how powerful it is. Plastic handles broke after a year. Replaced them with metal bar
Differential broke after 1,5 year of usage. Let's see if it will be warrantied. I take bets...
Bottom line:
+ Motor is nice, quiet and powerful
- Everything around the motor is cheap not built to last, like to many modern appliances and tools.
