Plus it is a really pretty red that goes great with all of my other red appliances. They include a cutter that will cut both the bottom crust size (a little larger than the top crust) and the top crust size. I was not expecting that bonus and it made it a snap to cut the dough to the proper sizes. In addition, they include a press to perfectly press the dough into the bottom cup. You simply lay the top crust on the pie and close the lid until they cook.
I am so impressed with the fun product. I plan on making a variety of pot pies (this could be done very quickly with premade pie dough, jarred gravy, frozen vegetables and cooked meat cubes) quiches, fruit pies. So many yummy fillings could be made and the pies would be very easy to take as a work lunch and heated quickly in a microwave. Would be so much better tasting and more economical than buying frozen pot pies or a product like Hot Pockets. Something very similar to a Hot Pocket could be easily made in this machine and frozen individually for an economical lunch.
Also, many different kinds of dough could be used, pizza dough, puff pastry as well as pie crust dough. One's imagination is the only limit.
I am most excited by how this will be such a great way to use leftovers and will be a very economical kitchen appliance.
Great product so far at a fabulous price. Totally recommend and, especially, the quick shipping and receipt courtesy of Amazon!
It only took me about 4 pies to figure out how it worked best for me. At first I was not filling them full enough; to make them really pretty fillings need to come over the top of the bottom part in a dome shape before the top crust is applied.
They make pies about the size of a Banquet Chicken pot pie. You can use phyllo dough, pastry, or pizza dough, and I've seen some recipes with cute breakfast pies made using hash brown potatoes.
They make a total of 4 pies at a time, and they are fun to use. Making the little pies reminded me of how much fun a new kitchen toy could be. There's a recipe booklet with it that has a few basic pastry recipes, and a few pies, but not a lot. However, there are recipe books and entire websites devoted to making these pies, so there's tons of recipes online.
The oven itself works very well, and the little pies are done in about 7-9 minutes depending on what sort of dough you use. It does come with a cutting tool for the pastry, and a press to press the bottoms well. After several batches, I quit using those as I had developed 'an eye' for it, which was a great relief because I'd worried about losing those when it first came in.
My family really enjoyed the pies. These would be amazing for party, a bake sale or kid's event. They look impressive.
It does take up some counter space, and I don't think I'll use it long enough to devote a permanent position to it, but I keep a Rubbermaid tote full of stuff like this. It's definitely a keeper.
