So up today we have the Sunbeam Microplush Throw Camelot Cuddler. This item was amazing for about 6 months. It was super plush and soft and warmed up quickly and evenly. It had a timer which was a good feature and everyone I let use it loved it. The downside to this cuddler is after about 6 months it was essentially deteriorating. There were rips, tears, frays, and marks all over it to the point where eventually I just threw it away. Other than longevitiy it really is a warm product, pun intended.
The pros: Soft, comfortable, and warm.
The cons: This only lasted about 6 months of use before looking terrible. It still got warm but it just looked like an old rag at that point.
The overall: I liked this product initially but it just did not hold up. I WOULD NOT buy this product again.
I hope you enjoyed this quick review. If so, like my review as helpful. Thanks!
Like most people looking at reviews the only real question is, is it worth it? If your'e looking to purchase this item because you actually NEED something to keep you warm at night then I would say no. I know this product is a throw so its not really designed for "Heavy Duty" heating but in my opinion you would be better off looking for better, perhaps more expensive, alternatives. If you just want to use this throw casually when your'e chilly or want to watch a movie with a significant other? Yes and no. Yes, because it does provide semi adequate heat and can warm on person up. No, because again there are better alternatives and unless your under 5'5 like the model for this product the throw isnt really going to heat up your whole body.
The main problem I see with this throw is that it is very poorly designed from both a mechanical and electrical engineering point of view. Mechanically, it's unwieldy because the cord attaches in the middle rather than at a corner, so it's always in your face or tangled between your legs. The cord itself is made with low stand-count wire rendering it stiff and awkward. A better mechanical design would be to use quality stranded wire attached at a corner. This would make it more comfortable to arrange without a cord always in the way, and the better wire would be "slinkier" and easy to handle rather than stiff and sticking out awkwardly all the time. The other mechanical problem with this throw is that it's thick and unwieldy. I was hoping for something a bit thinner. The bulk makes it hard to wrap around oneself.
Electrically, I was disappointed by the controller design. For one thing, it was completely different than the rounded one pictured (mine was a small rectangle) and for another it is extremely easy to accidentally press the button and unintentionally change the setting. Other reviewers have noted this too. The button is big and responds to very slight pressure, so I often found myself overheating a few minutes after shifting position, having accidentally pressed the button up to a higher setting. This issue is compounded by the stiff wire and it's the positioning of the connector centered on the throw rather than at a corner, making accidental setting changes all the more common.
Also, the difference between settings seems small. The low setting is quite warm, almost too warm. Medium seemed hot, and high seemed about the same as medium. The weather at the time of this writing is warmish, so this assessment may be different in cold weather.
Aside from all that, the throw is smallish, though I grant it is 50" x 60" as advertised. I'm a big guy at 6-1 and found that I could never manage to get covered up by this throw in a satisfying way due to it's small size. But that may be more my problem than a problem with the throw. As I said, it is exactly the size advertised, and if you're smaller-framed than I am, you may find the size just right.
On the plus side, the throw material is soft and pleasant and it warms up quickly (so two stars instead of one), but these good qualities don't make up for the shortcomings, especially the very badly designed controller and the cheap, stiff, uncomfortable wire.
