The khaki is a newer version with several changes and it doesn't fit well anymore. The Wild Berry color shows the current newer model. all of the other colors show the previous discontinued model.
There are stitches now on the side vents but the biggest issue is the top of the cap is smaller in circumference and forms a cone shape when I wear it.
5 stars for the previous style, 2 stars for the current one. Hopefully I can return mine since the photos were incorrect.
I've never been much of a hat wearer, as a fashion choice all hats just look weird on me. For outdoor work, despite wanting to keep the sun off my face I was concerned it would make me too hot since I'm accustomed to literally never wearing one. I first started an outdoor project while it was cloudy, and I was working up a sweat, when the sun came out and I put on the hat I found it made no difference to how hot I felt. It is lightweight and comfortable. I didn't feel as if my visual field was restricted at all, and most importantly it did indeed keep the sun out of my eyes and off my face.
I'm a 5'10" male and first bought the medium, which was too tight. It may fit you have a small head, but I would recommend the large instead, as with that one, I was in about the middle of its sizing range.
My only real complaint is, as other reviewers have said, the plastic nub on the back doesn't let you easily lay down - it's basically impossible to get comfortable because it's drilling into the back of your noggin. I'm going to try some modifications myself and see if I can manage to improve that part of the experience, because otherwise it's a great hat.
For someone who only occasionally wears hats and doesn't look particularly good in them when they do, this one is relatively inoffensive, if nothing else.
- large fit as expected
- the wicking material is not just on the band but around the entire inside of the cap except the crown
- seems well constructed
- not sure if the slits in the hat are that useful for venting but may be useful for holding your glasses or other purposes
- not waterproof but water and stain resistant
- 'hand washable' makes me nervous
- hat adjustment would have been better with an inside velcro strap
- too early to tell if this is a hot weather hat. the nylon material doesn't seem very breatheable and especially the inner pocket in the crown prevents heat escaping
The only negative thing is the little drawstring mechanism that cinches up the back of the hat. The knot and plastic cincher create a bump at the back of your head. You don't notice it when walking around, or even sitting against a soft chair, but it's annoying if you lead back against a hard surface because you can feel it poking you int he back of the head. Also, having the string sticking out the back looks slightly dorky. If it had a belt-style cincher it would be just about perfect. As it is, it's still quite good.
