I was looking for a cheap break and cable that I could add to my 5 year-olds bike and this fit the bill. The break pages are adjustable enough to fit her small wheels. The hand grip is a little bigger than I would have wanted it to be, but the adjustment screw (a small black screw at the base of the handle parallel to the cable) does let me bring the handle in a good amount when screwed tightly in. The cable was twice as long as I need (much better than half as long) but gave me a bit of a riddle trying to figure out how to cut it while still having the overhang of the inner cable you need to attach the cable to the actual break. If you have the correct diameter wire cutter, this won't be a problem for you, but I did not, so here is the best way I found to cut the cable after trying several bad ways:
1) figure out how long you need the cable to be and remember that the inner cable should be about 1 foot longer than the outer sleeve to give you the play you need to attach the handle and the break (you can easily trim the excess from the break end when you are done).
2) pull that 1 foot or so of extra internal cable out the top
3) Now you can cut clean through the cable case without worrying about crimping the inner cable
4) if necessary trim another 1/4 inch or less of the bottom end of the sleeve so you can get a grip on the inner cable and pull it back down.
5) Yank the little clean-end guide of the trimmed sleeve and smoosh it back onto your new shortened cable
If you are going to a front break you will almost certainly need to shorten the cable and if it is a kid bike all the more so as the longer the cable the more friction and slop in the break action.
Once I had the cable the right length and the handle properly adjusted it is just about usable for my girls small hands. I am subtracting a star, though because as another review mentioned, the pads are a little softer than those you might get at a better bike store. That means you will need to apply more hand force before the wheel really stops. Also, and this seems to be common practice, the break handle mount is a single piece of molded plastic rather than two pieces bolted together. This means that the hand grip needs to come off the bar before the break handle can go on. That is a total PitA. You might also want to buy new hand grips and cut the old ones off and save yourself some trouble.
