Although my issue with the belt was resolved by the manufacturer, I can't give this another star. On May 30, 2016, I discovered the weld at the front of the frame had cracked entirely. I've had this thing for less than a year, and I expect it to be covered by the warranty. However, if I had to do it all over, I would have spent a little bit more to save myself the headache. Pictures of the cracked weld are attached.
To Sunny's credit, they shipped a replacement immediately. It arrived today (June 7). However, they sent an exercise bicycle, NOT a replacement elliptical. I'm still trying to wrap my head around this. I contacted the company, and I'm waiting for a response.
I purchased this machine on July 8, 2015, and it was delivered on July 10. I decided to wait to write a review, and I'm glad I did.
Initially, this machine got high marks for ease of assembly. The manual breaks it down to five steps, and the hardware is bagged and labeled according to which step it is needed for. It could conceivably be built by one person, but having a second pair of hands is best. Initially, this machine also was great, and nearly silent during use. Initially.
I used this machine for 40 minutes, 3-6 days a week, with the resistance set at 5 (with 8 being the highest setting).
As the weeks and months passed, the machine started to squeak and groan. Tightening the (apparently easily loosened) bolts all over the machine seemed to lessen, but not eliminate, the noise.
On multiple occasions, after completing my workout, I found pieces of thin, black, metallic washers. Based on where they were in relation to the machine, I believe they came from the joints where the pedal bars meet the handle bars and/or the bars that come from the pink case.
Finally, on December 27, less than six months after purchasing the machine, the belt either slipped or broke, rendering the machine useless.
After contacting the manufacturer to make a warranty claim, I was informed that the belt is no longer under warranty, as that warranty only lasts 90 days. The one-year manufacturer warranty only applies to the frame and welds. If the belt turns out to be broken, I will have to purchase and install the replacement if I want to keep using this machine.
If you want an elliptical that you can use regularly, for more than six months, keep looking.
We opened the case to find that the belt did not break, but has been frayed/shredded to the point that it will not stay on the track after being put back in place. I am waiting for a response from the manufacturer regarding who pays to replace the belt, since I cannot believe this kind of damage is the result of using a normally functioning elliptical.
-It was easy to set up- if you're decent with tools (all of which are provided). It took about an hour by myself. The first few pages of the directions booklet were overwhelming and misleading - it made it seem like there were a ton more parts/steps than there actually were. They broke it down so you saw every little piece that is part of the machine, but most are already put together. The 5 steps you have to complete were a little confusing but no more than Ikea directions (I was most confused about which was the front or back base-no labels). Plus it really helped that the hardware for each step was separated into individually labeled bags.
-I'm 5'2" and it's perfect for me. The fact most people said it was better for those that are petite actually made it more appealing to me. Larger/normal sized ellipticals feel a bit uncomfortable to me, but on this I don't feel like I'm overstretching my legs.
-I don't find it wobbly, but maybe it is if you're running really fast. Just make sure the nuts/bolts are as tight as possible. I also don't find it loud, and have not received any complaints from my downstairs neighbors (nor do I expect to).
Why it lost a star -
-no cup holder and no feasible place to hang a cup holder.
-you can't easily put a book, ipad, phone, etc in front of you while you work out. And it doesn't really lend itself to one of those over the monitor desks like other ellipticals do. I'll probably end up buying some free-standing ipad dock that can adjust to the height I need to watch TV while I work out.
Lastly, Amazon recommends you buy this with Stamina Fold-to-Fit Folding Equipment Mat (84-Inch by 36-Inch), but I wish I'd done more research. That mat is way bigger than what you need for this (length and width), and it doesn't fold evenly, so the front of my machine is slightly higher than the back.
So far, it's a pretty good machine for $130. But if I could find a different elliptical that had a cup holder and a place to put a book for $20-$40 more, I probably would have gone with that.
The elliptical was very easy to put together. The steps were listed clearly, and better yet, the parts required for each step were placed in a separate, labeled bag. This made it very convenient to find the correct parts for each step and check to make sure they were all there. The elliptical itself is quiet. We have it on carpet, and it only makes a little bit of noise while in use. Doesn't come with many extras, but what is there works well. My thought is that this elliptical is designed for a smaller person. My wife is 5' 4" and it works well for her. I'm 5' 8" and its pretty comfortable for me, but I've noticed that my shoes (size 9.5) are about the largest that will fit easily onto the stepping platform.
My only complaint is that one of the 'pre-assembled' parts had fallen apart while in the box, and it took some figuring out to re-assemble it.
