I've written since I could hold a pencil and form letters into words. As an only child growing up in rural Missouri I had many imaginary playmates. These friends were the characters in the childhood stories I wrote.

My story characters today still run the show. I see them in my mind's eye doing what they desire to do, and I write as fast as I can to keep up with them. It's like watching a movie and taking notes.

Living in the beautiful country of the southern Sierra Nevada mountains lends to stimulating the creative juices. I can take a hike along a mountain trail and all sorts of "what if's" creep into my mind...story ideas to go home and write.

In my debut western historical novel, Cora's Promise, Cora finds herself taking a treacherous journey to fulfill a promise made to a dying friend. Now what? Cora finds something unexpected at the end of the road.
