This story is a standalone romance, book 2 in the series. I never read the first one, but I knew everything I needed from the first few chapters. There was romance and plenty of suspense to keep things interesting.
I loved the MCs. Layla is one kf my favorite heroines now because she is smart, independent, and very capable of taking care of herself. She doesn't back down and is fierce. She also has a soft side, and it is complemented well by Damian. He is wonderful! Definitely a new book boyfriend. He's strong, sexy, and dedicated to Layla, after he realized what he was missing. He looked after Layla well throughout, and the chemistry between was AMAZING! It started slow and sensual, sizzling more and more as the story progressed. Very sensual, especially Damian. And once they finally connect... boom! It was great. Once they started, they didn't stop, for better or worse. The plot worked itself out as the second half was full of their moments alone in a wide variety of places (the plane is probably unrealistic, but I enjoyed it so much!), so get ready for lots of fun times there. I thought the scenes were very steamy and not boring or repetitive.
The story was well-written, with few grammar errors. The plot moved along well and kept me interested throughout. If you like strong heroines, hot men, and plenty of romance with your suspense, you need to read this book. I'll be excited and looking forward to many more books from DC Triana.
When we first meet Layla Reece, she's nursing a broken heart brought on by the abrupt departure of FBI hottie Damian Trent whom she had been dating. Flash forward a bit and we find Trent back in New York and working undercover at Sunset Reads where Layla has recently been hired as an executive.
The FBI is hot on the trail of a group of Russian hackers who have there sights set on Sunset Reads. Damian has been enlisted by FBI Headquarters to go undercover as an employee of the publishing firm. And so the fun begins! Layla has no intention of letting Damian worm his way back into her heart, but Damian has other plans especially when Layla is suddenly drawn into the hacker's web.
'Damian and Layla' is romance at it's finest and the added element of suspense is truly the icing on the cake. It's not easy to blend romance and suspense but Ms.Triana is able to pull it off with her solid writing style combined with two strong lead characters. The book is fast-paced and action-packed with lots of steamy sex scenes (really steamy!) peppered throughout along with a host of excellent supporting characters. I look forward to book 3 in the series - Henry's story perhaps? Well done!
The story is that of FBI-agent Damian Trent and PR-pro Layla Reece who have a short fling that is cut short when Damian disappears, choosing to end the relationship rather than jeopardizing Layla’s safety. When their paths cross again sparks fly, but Layla is determined to not let Damian back into her life and definitely not into her heart. Circumstances force them together, and the attraction proves too strong to resist.
The plot is perhaps a tad unrealistic, and the main characters feel a bit like they belong on a daytime soap, but if you’re into that type of thing, it’s a hot, quick read that fulfills its intended purpose. The tension between the main characters is palpable, and the sex scenes are hot and steamy without being too explicit. There are plenty of twists and surprises to keep the reader on the edge of her seat (or bed) and a satisfying happy ending.
This book was not really my cup of tea, mainly because I find jealousy and manipulative games such a turn-off, but it still gets 3.5 stars for the emotional build-up and the palpable chemistry between the leading characters. If you’re not too bothered by typos, I say go for it.
