The ending of this book is a happy one, but Author Shannyn Leah offers an alternative on her website. I preferred the ending as it is written because it shows Violet has kindness in her heart and truly wants the best for her family.
This book is a contemporary romance without steamy sex details. Some might call it clean writing. The author alludes to the act, but leaves what happens up to the readers imagination. My one complaint about this story is that it needs major editing. A few errors are ok, but the errors in this book interrupted my reading flow. It's not even a formatting problem, it just needs a thorough proofing and editing.
This book should have been 4 stars. However, the editing was so badly done that I had to drop 1 star. There were typographical and writing errors that were flagrant and annoying. I hate when a book is filled with so many errors that it is a major distraction to this story. That being said, I
will read another book by this author. She writes a good story, but editing needs fine-tuning.
Ryder was the best man at his friend Joel's first wedding to Violet. Now he's been coerced into standing up for him again. Over the years, Joel has been telling Ryder about the "ice queen" & after the divorce, has been bitterly putting filling his head with lies about her. Ryder didn't realize that at the time. Ryder has his own secrets he's trying to keep & really doesn't want to be part of the wedding. Imagine his surprise when he's accosted in the men's room by Violet & they have a chance encounter. Can they see past the lies & build a relationship? Why is Joel trying to interfere?
This is only the second book by Shannon Leah that I have read & I'm already a fan. Her characters are well developed & realistic. The common theme is how Robert Caliendo manipulated & lied to control his kids lives & those of others. The characters all have flaws & those flaws work to derail their relationships until the lies have been revealed & dealt with. Violets children add another dimension because it gives her another reason to be concerned & try to conceal the truth. Appearances must be kept.
Violet was married to a man she didn't love and he didn't love her either. From such a marriage she has learned not to trust anyone. She is quite happy with her life now. She loves her job and her kids, but she plans to never fall in love or look for a happy ending because they don't exist. Once again she finds herself in a difficult position. She is planning her ex's marriage and can't help but being annoyed with the whole situation. To make things worse his best friend will be there as well. She hates both men, for totally different reasons though...
Ryder has heard a lot of things about his friend's ex. Apparently she is an ice queen, a woman without any emotions. She is definitely not someone he can ever like. But soon he realizes that everything he thinks he knows about him is wrong. She wears her disguise well but underneath it she is a warm and loving woman. And every moment he spends with her makes him fall more and more in love with her. However, getting a happy ending may not be that easy for them. There is too much past between them, all they can do is try to make it work...
It's a good contemporary novel with lots of laugh-out-loud moments and some very romantic ones too. All in all it's a good read, something that can be enjoyed by every romance addict.
