I just received a Supco MFD10 from Amazon this last week.

The product was as described, though I think it should be made clearer in the description that the alligator lead clips are hard connected to the device. There is a back panel that slides off (where the 9V battery is stored with normal 9V connector) and at the top of the unit the red & black leads are connected and stored. The space under the panel is VERY tight. The leads are only a few inches long. This works fine, but I worry in time about the clips breaking and having to figure out how to replace them. It would have been better if Amazon's description specifically stated they were included AND hard connected to the unit, etc. (I will try to update with pictures.)

Amazon lists the ranges as "0.01 to 10000mF". When they say "mF", they mean microfarad (usually µF or uF). The product package clearly/correctly labels the range ".01 µF to 10,000 µF".

The unit also feels a little cheap. I had seen one at the HVAC parts store (used by the employees) and remember it being a very high quality unit. However, mine seems/feels very cheaply made. I found a copy of the 2008 insert (Rev 021108) and they used to be made in the USA, however, mine says "Made in SUPCO Ningbo, China" (Rev 03012011) which might explain the decrease in quality.

The button pops/cracks when you push it (though it works, it is just a push down on a single small button on the main circuit). The switch to select the range is very hard to move up and down (is just a simple switch passing through the top panel from the main circuit board). The back panel (as mentioned) is very tight.

I bought a Supco Capacitor tester many years ago and it was very reliable and well made. Unfortunately the batteries leaked and it was no longer usable so I needed a replacement to keep on my service truck. So I bought another Supco which is the new model MFD10. Huge mistake. Talk about a cheap piece of junk! Works sometimes but not reliable at all. The clip on leads are flimsy and don't always make connection with the built in test cables, the plastic cover that holds the test leads inside the tester broke the very first use, the case zipper broke after the third use. This thing simple cannot be trusted to reliable test motor start or run capacitors. Do yourself a favor and DO NOT waste your money on this cheap, worthless, China made piece of junk.

I bought this to test some high value capacitors on a vintage stereo amp I was working on. I fiddled with this thing for hours trying
to just tell if one or both of the caps were bad or not. Display is almost impossible to read unless you stand on your head and hold it just right. The way the value jumps around you don't have a clue what the value is. I bought another one from China for half the price pulled it out of the box and less than 2 minutes it "clearly" told me both caps were good and a value I could believe.
I would never recommend this to friend or foe. Oh and the quality of the construction from the bag it's in to the unit is shoddy at best. I find it hard to believe i saw one on youtube and the guy liked it, maybe his worked much better than mine.

You can read all of my reviews and see that when I get a good product I give a good review, by the same token when I get
junk I call it junk, and this thing is junk

[Note this was purchased under my account, but was for my husband (Amazon name Foxtrot). See his comments which are very in-depth...from an actual EE... on the topic. My comments on the product are below.]

Quality seemed lacking (China's quality version of "good"): button and switch feel like they will break after a while (cheap) and the plastic is the thin stuff. The case is better quality than the tool (sad)!

The Amazon listing's information seems to be different from information on the product packaging (some of which I didn't understand, but could tell was different ... I am a novice in this field). Microfarad is being shown as "mF" but I know as uF (so be aware of that). It wasn't clear the black and red cables with "alligator clips" were attached permanently on the back side. There is nothing on the packaging saying "+/- 5% Accuracy", not sure if that is true or not.

I shopped for this in several places. All were in the $100+ range. Not worth $100. But for the $60 I paid is it ok. The leads are a little to short and the button feels strange when you push it but it does what it is made to do. I recently bought a new field piece multi-meter and both meters read the same when checking capacitors.

The old model was much better, This model is very hard to get the test leads back into case and slide door back over test leads. Bring back the old model.

Broke after first use, spend a little more on a meter that has a more respectful reputation, its worth it.
