All in all I'm happy with the fan. It would have been easier if I would have purchased a motor with a blade, so I didn't have to do so much customizing. Back to being chilly.
Instructions were easy to follow, and there were plenty of small hardware bits to make installation a "breeze". Easy to retrofit to Maytag fridge using a piece of metal strapping bent to almost-match original one. Fan blows powerfully, so lower compartment actually gets cold now without having to dial it up. Motor is louder than original, but that should be par for the course if you are actually going to have realistic power. At least we are no longer wondering if it is working or not.
Too early to tell if Supco motor will outlast OEM replacement part as we have been using it for only a month or so, but as we have already gone through two OEMs in the last 7 years, we remain hopeful. Besides, the price was right, coming in at about 15% of OEM.
The Supco can be altered to revese the motor rotation but the default rotation matched mine, clockwise.
The mounting was also an initial concern. My unit has a mounting bracket that attached in the same place as the bolts hodking the Supco together and the original unit had standoffs for the attachment to the mount. The Supco kit had a double threaded standoff, one end treaded onto the Supco bolts, the other end was threaded correctly for the OEM bolts that attached the mounting plate.
I did not cut off the original wire connectors and use the supplied wire nuts, instead I crimped on the correct flat blade donnectors on to the Supco wires allowing them to attach to the freezer wire connectors.
I can't speak to longevity, but seem to be a well thought out kit and for the price paid to rejuvinate the 1985 vintage refrigerator, awsome.
