I grew up in the 70s as a rabid NFL fan (as rabid as a kid under 10 in Oklahoma can be). I followed the Dallas Cowboys and loved watching whatever football coverage I could back when there were only three channels on TV.

The fun of this book is in the stories that the players share. Tom Danyluk went far and wide to find football players from the 70s who would agree to interview (he lists who declined or ignored his requests to be interview - an interesting list).

If you are a fan - rabid or casual - of NFL football from the 70s, you will have a great time reading this book. It's well written and easily accessible to readers in middle school and above. Some of the content, however, is better for adults than kids under 16.

Constant NFL rule changes, almost all favoring the offense, since the Seventies has made football from that era almost unrecognizable to the modern fan.

The Super Seventies produced some of the greatest, if not the greatest, teams and players of all time but the Seventies Pittsburgh Steelers, Oakland Raiders, Dallas Cowboys and their ilk would have a hard time playing under today's rules.

The Super 70's helps the reader understand the brutality and violence of a game that has forever changed. Free Agency has destroyed the concept of teams dominating a decade with the same core of players.

Tom Danyluk, the best football writer around today and one of the few in touch with the lore of the pro game, provides great insight and interviews that open a window onto a decade which might have been football's best.

Pair this book with the fictional North Dallas Forty by Peter Gent and peer into a long lost era of the NFL, an era which also provided a much more enjoyable on field product and, arguably, much more exciting games.

The Super '70's is a delightful look behind the scenes of pro football during the 1970's. If you grew up during this era, you will enjoy this book as I did. Football in the '70's was much more fun to watch then it has been in recent decades. This is due to the obscene salaries and attitudes of today's athlete. Money has poisoned the athlete's of today in all of the major sports. Football players used to be loyal to their teams as with owners as well. Today, it's all about money, greed, and arrogance. Maybe that's why as fans, we truly believed that our favorite players were truly trying to win as a team and have a common goal. You lived and died each week depending on how your team fared. The '70's may not have been the greatest, but it certainly was more appreciated by the fans than today's over-hyped "thugs" they call players. The quality of pro sports is just a reflexion of today's society. The football era of the '60's and '70's will never be replaced, which is why the memories will always be cherished.

Tom Danyluk has written on a subject matter that allows the reader to decide on how this era in NFL history has shaped it to the giant it is today.I fully expected to read about nothing more but the glory days of dominating teams of that era (Steelers,Cowboys,blah-blah) but instead was treated to the insight from many others who had a profound influence on the game at that time.Though largely forgotten today except by the followers of that era,the men interviewed provide a picture of the innovations and the changes that were used to improve their ball clubs and it helps educate the reader on how the game was (and is) supposed to be played.Though this book has been accused of glorifying this decade I didn't feel it took any pains to do so,even though I am in the belief that it was this period that made the NFL great.Thanks for doing a good job on a subject that never gets boring.
