You can trust this brand of almond flour. It works well for just about anything. There is a chocolate chip cookie and a pancake recipe printed on the back of the bag. I included a photo of the package next to a small box of tea, just to show you the size. There is no difference between almond flour or almond powder, by the way. They are the same. Just make sure the only ingredient in both is almonds, with nothing else added. This works well for French macarons!

First off, I bought this on Amazon because the stuff I could find locally was much more expensive. I've liked Bob's Red Mill products in the past, so I decided to take the plunge and order this so I could make cake.

Yes, I bought this for one recipe, and it works well for it. Some people complained about the grind of the product, but I don't really find it to be a problem. The texture is fine for my needs, and with each bag being cheaper than the alternatives I can find locally (which tend to come in smaller quantities), I'm happy with the purchase. There's enough for me to make about 8 cakes with one of these orders, so it's a nice occasional treat.

Recipe

Ingredients:
-250 grams almond meal
-200 grams sugar
-rind of 1/2 lemon (don't go into the white part of the rind because it may make the cake bitter)
-cinnamon (I just put in enough to slightly change the color of the batter)
-almond flakes (optional)
-4 eggs (sometimes I need to use 5 if the batter is too thick)
-powdered sugar and unsweetened yogurt to serve (optional)

*Preheat oven to 200* Celcius
1) Mix the sugar and almond meal.
2) Stir in cinnamon, lemon rind, and almond flakes.
3) Beat the eggs together in a separate bowl.
4) Mix the beaten eggs into the dry mixture.
5) Pour into a small pan. (I've had bad luck using glass pans; the cake tends to stick even if the pan is greased, and it is extremely hard to get the center to cook correctly. The person who taught me the recipe swears by glass pans with this cake, though, so YMMV. I think that a lot of the end result is dependent on your oven, so use your judgement. I prefer round, nonstick metal pans for this.)
6) Cook for 20 minutes, or until the top is golden brown.
7) Sprinkle with powdered sugar. Serve with unsweetened yogurt sprinkled with cinnamon.

Great for making nut crackers. NUT CRACKERS If chips are the most addictive snacks around then crackers are a close runner up. These nut crackers are rich and satisfying and loaded with protein and heart healthy fat. So snack away! INGREDIENTS: 2 cups fine almond meal 1 teaspoon baking soda 1–2 tablespoons dried oregano or Italian seasoning 1 cup finely grated Parmesan or Romano cheese 2 tablespoons olive oil 3 tablespoons water SERVINGS: A dozen or so crackers INSTRUCTIONS: Preheat oven to 350°F. In a mixing bowl, combine all ingredients and stir to form a moist, sticky dough. Add more water or oil if needed. Using wet hands, place the dough on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Using your fingers, flatten the dough out into a thin rectangle measuring about 10x8. Sprinkle a little sea salt on top if desired. Bake for 15 minutes or until dough becomes dry and golden in appearance. Remove and cool on a wire baking rack. Once the dough is cooled (and this is important, because it becomes very brittle right out of the oven) use a pizza cutter to create crackers. If not consuming immediately, be sure to store in an air-tight container.

I have been trying to transition from white (wheat) flour to almond flour in my home baking. Most of the time the Bob's Red Mill almond flour/meal is very competitively priced on Amazon. It is a good product--good texture/consistency and is always fresh and I've never had a problem with it. If you are new to almond flour and are not sure if you will like it or use it much, the 16 oz. packages are the way to go. You can open one and try it without worrying that a large package might go bad if you don't use it for awhile. I have tried other Bob's Red Mill products and have always been satisfied with the products. I'm sure I will order more of this in the future.

I got on a macaron kick of late, and I am far too lazy to grind up my own almonds, so naturally I buy this stuff. I admit I buy Bob's just for the brand recognition (I can't help but see the whole shelf dedicated to their stuff in the grocery store), but I'm always happy with the taste. My macarons always end up tasting nicely almondy (that's totally a word, spell-checker), and I'm satisfied with the product. There's always a bit (more than I'd like) of larger almond chunks, and when making macarons you have to be super finicky about sifting anyway, but I don't have much use for chunks of almond and have been unable to properly pulverize them with a food processor.

In any event, good product. Just make sure to sift if you need to keep chunks out.

I was happy with my purchase. The expiration date of my package has a date of Oct 2017 or 9 months from the time of purchase. The price is very good, however, there is a problem with the product listing at the time of MY purchase. The product listing's photo shows a 1lb bag. In case you are purchasing a combined order with a friend do note what you might or will receive as I did, is a single 3-LB larger bag. It may not be three separate 1lb bags like the photo implies. If you are purchasing for yourself, then it probably won't be an issue. But if you are splitting the order with a friend or you won't be using 3lb at one time, you might have to pour the package contents into a container capable of holding what would be left of the 3lb bag of almond flour.

Having said the above, Bob's Red Mill Amond Flour is good quality stuff.

5.0 out of 5 stars behaves like flour - great value!

This almond flour is fantastic, because it resembles flour more than other brands I've shopped around for. Almond MEAL or GROUND almonds are not the same as flour and don't provide the same texture in recipes - especially the more recently popular paleo recipes. Personally, I use it in a low carb/sugar-free pie crust recipe I created (attached picture) and it is wonderful! The recipe wouldn't be the same without it. I've purchased other brands and needed to blend it again at home to get a more powdery/flour-like consistency. I hope the price doesn't increase with this product because I will definitely continue to buy regularly.
