One of the best things about the Game Boy Color is that it's basically an original Nintendo Entertainment System that can fit in your pocket. What this means for gamers is that many of the great games for the classic system are being ported to the Game Boy Color, giving us a chance to re-play (or in some cases discover) the best game titles from the '80s.

Nintendo's own Super Mario Bros. Deluxe is among the first of these conversions, and it certainly remains one of the best. Actually, calling this game a conversion really doesn't do it justice. This version actually contains more levels than the original game, including the entire Japanese version and a slew of extras (such as a two-player mode).

The controls in this game are easy to grasp--even for novice gamers. All Mario can do is jump (and shoot fireballs with the right power- ups), but it is amazing to see how much gameplay can be squeezed from these simple actions when the controls work in direct harmony with a player's thoughts. The only element of this game that could have been better is that the Game Boy Color's screen isn't quite large enough to show the entire layout of the original game screen, so players may occasionally need to press up and down on the control pad to see some offscreen action. While this can be distracting, it ultimately has minimal impact on gameplay. If you are looking for the quintessential side-scrolling platform game, you can't do much better than Super Mario Bros. Deluxe. --T. Byrl Baker

Pros:

  • Classic side-scrolling action gameplay
  • Lots of extras
Cons:
  • Screen isn't quite big enough to show the entire layout of the game

I'll just cut straight to the point: this is the game that made me a gamer back in the 80s. Bringing the magic from the original NES onto the Game Boy Color can only be called "perfection."Not only does it come complete with the 1985 classic version, but it also includes The Lost Levels, which was only released worldwide in Super Mario All-stars; You vs. Boo, where you race Boo; a VS mode.....well, I won't spoil any of the game's details. One thing worth mentioning is the screen: of course it goes without saying that it's much smaller than a TV monitor, but due to its limited size, you have the option to press SELECT to scroll the screen forward or backward. If you have a Game Boy Color (or Advance), this should be in your collection; heck, even if you don't have one, this makes for a great collectible.

Ahh, the good old days when buying a Nintendo was everything. Super Mario Bros., a great game then and now, remains a timeless classic. Okay, my review isn't about the nostalgic feel of Super Mario Bros. Fast forward 14 years later. The Game Boy Color, in existence for only a year, has a great port of SMB given to it, with tons of extras! Nintendo calls it "Super Mario Bros Deluxe".

The features of this game include the original SMB with additions like a map screen and the ability to save in 3 files! Next, there's Challenge Mode, which is like the original, but you have to try to find red coins, a Yoshi egg, and try to get a high score. It's hard, but worth a shot. You can also challenge a friend to a race, a lot like You VS. Boo! In You VS. Boo, you basically race against Boo in one of eight levels. There are blocks that, when hit, can make things appear or disappear. Next, you can unlock the Japanese version of Super Mario Bros 2, aka The Lost Levels, or in this, "Super Mario Bros For Super Players". This is one of the few ways to play this game in America, along with Super Mario All-Stars (for SNES) and some others. This game is VERY hard, hence "For Super Players". Difficulty is the main reason why this wasn't marketed in the states. You also get a few extras like an album, a calendar, and some Fortune Teller thing which only useful if you get an Extremely Lucky, because then you get more lives when you start a new game.

I do have one problem with this: because of the GBC's screen, you will sometimes have to press up and down on the directional pad to see better. While this can get tedious and is known to cost lives, it's not that terrible.

Overall, I say "BUY THIS GAME, PERIOD."

This is a classic game that's been around for decades. I grew up to Mario Nintendo and such and gifting this to my son is a perfect way to reward him when he does well in school and keeps his room tidy. it's a good reward system for him, he has hours of fun with it and we can give him pointers on how to get through the different levels with ease. The cartridge fit perfectly and worked instantly the moment he fired it up, each and every time.

I ordered this product on Sunday and it took 4 days to arrive. In the buying options section I saw sign that said very good. So I ordered it it came just as it was in the description! Oh by the way in order to unlock Luigi you must go to the first save file hit start then it will say copy. copy the save file then go to the copied save file hit start again then go down to clear then hit the select button and then it'll say erase all data. All the data will be deleted but if you erase all your data you get to play as Luigi so yeah.. Anyway The seller I got it from is Sosa games. also really fun game!! It's also hard to!! Anyway I recommend this game to whoever is buying a GameBoy color or has one

Anyone who thinks they are a skilled gamer should play this, and be reminded of how much they actually suck as they attempt to navigate a tiny man in a world with no second chances. Like most Italians, Mario's on a never ended quest for po0n, and will destroy anyone who attempts to cock block him. He also has no issue killing plants and animals, because like most Catholics he doesn't believe they have souls (I guess Boos are the spirits of these poor creatures trapped on earth, hungry for vengeance but still terrified of the face of their killer). Question why someone would pepper a landscape with randomly exploding cannons, and have spent the time to paint smiles on all the bullets. Entertain the ones around you with heavy sighs and outbursts of rage as you forget the sequence of paths to get you to the end of the level for the tenth time. Drop a rare fire-breathing turtle into a pit of lava and get laid.

I recently started playing my old Gameboy Color and I desperately wanted to add Super Mario Bros. Deluxe to my collection of game cartridges. The game was delivered to me quickly and in excellent condition. It even came in the original packaging with the instruction manual. More importantly, the cartridge was in good working order. As soon as I popped it in my Gameboy, the fun was ready to begin. I was so pleased with the seller and definitely recommmend this game to Gameboy enthusiasts who want relive a childhood memory.

*******************************
+++ Spielmusik
+ schönes Leveldesign (Original)
+ abwechslungsreiche Missionen
+ leichte Steuerung / schneller Spieleinstieg
+ Schwierigkeitsgrad steigt je Level
+ Spiel kann abgespeichert werden

- zu kleiner Bildausschnitt

Fazit:

Super Mario Bros. :)

This is my _favorite_ game. That's right. Favorite. Game.

You might think I'm crazy; there are, like, 8 bits in this game. This game make it feel like 64. Fast, fluid, smooth, fast-paced and so on. I've spent more hours on this game than on any other, and I'm not going to give it up.

This doesn't tell you much about the game, but if you don't know what Super Mario Bros. is, you're seriously odd. Importantly, though, this comes with The Lost Levels *built in*. Serious-yeah!
