With this book that recommendation does come with two caveats. The first is for strong language. The main characters are Special Forces, Marines and motorcycle gang members so the language is realistic.
Additionally the preface has a note from Evan that the book was released in ARC format without copyedits so there are currently some spelling/grammar/capitalization issues but once the copy edits are back in a couple of weeks the book will be updated.
If neither of those is an issue for you, I highly recommend this new take on what might happen if humans began to develop superpowers.
What follows is exactly as awesome as you would hope from a story involving a superpowered marine captain fighting a superpowered biker gang. If you were hoping for high art or deeply developed characters, read the first paragraph again.
I have a few minor stylistic complaints (words reused too close together, and why is the first thing we learn about the protagonist his preferred caliber of pistol?), but for what it is, it's a great one.
An advanced intelligence styled to keep unruly life from infecting the galaxy. It seems AI drones on a mission to find and destroy life on planets that are not up to par . The drone cobrs earth populated with a most virulent life form and asts about to ensure the life form won't contaminate the galaxies by selecting groups of the most aggressive members of the population and modifying their DNA to give them a variety of extra human abilities. The ensuing battles are a mainstay of the whole book and sets the stage for the series.
A fun book with some technical jargon about genetic code manipulation that gives humans all kinds of abilities.
gathered in one place as target.
