About the Author
Jan Stafford Kellis was born reading and learned to write soon afterward. She lives in the wild woods of Michigan's Upper Peninsula, where she works full-time at an electric utility company and helps her husband manage his construction business. She spends her discretionary time traveling to visit her daughters, extreme shopping, reading, writing and luxury camping.

The plot swings between the mid-seventies, when the events of the "secret" transpires; and the present, when the consequences, whether those revealed or those hidden, of those long-ago days are explored. This is a plot device that I usually dislike intensely, but it works extremely well in this case. The research done of the time period involved no doubt contributes to that. Mention of things like TV series popular at the time and unforgettable news stories of the day make the setting at once familiar and realistic, to those of us old enough to remember those days.
This book is worth much more than it costs; I'd recommend buying it before the price rises to anywhere near its true value. I highly recommend this book to anyone. In my opinion, this book is as good as "The Light Between Oceans," which seems to be the smash hit of the season (and deservedly so,) but this one is much more reasonably priced. I'd grab it before the bean-counters figure out that it's worth much more!
The name of Marcia's bookstore is TURN THE PAGE, this is my favorie quote... " TURN THE PAGE the sign advises, and i realize, not for the first time, that i've embraced this philosophy since 1975. Turn the page, forget the past. This never happened. This, too, never happened. Turn the other cheek. "
Kellis has done it again in Superior Sacrifices!
It's heartbreakingly real ... overwhelmingly sad...and filled with love and in its way, hope.
In this well-crafted novel, Author Jan Stafford Kellis explores Marcia’s persistent memories as she reflects back on her rape following a high school homecoming game. She is consumed with fear, guilt, shame, and a desire to know what happened to the daughter she surrendered to adoption. Her emotions come to a climax when her twin brother dies leaving a journal depicting how he killed her rapist. Marcia does not find solace until her missing daughter reaches out to her.
Kellis provides a superb treatment of a sensitive topic in this character-driven novel as she explores the many emotions plaguing rape victims. Although this novel will appeal more to women, I also found it entertaining, thought provoking, and intellectually stimulating. It was easy to award all five stars to this novel.
