Also Yost is just generally pretty awesome as a writer, and this is no exception.
The art, however, can't quite seem to decide whether he has the bug-eyes that help distinguish the first Superior suit or a more traditional eye.
I'd definitely say that you should give this book (and by extension the larger Superior plotline) a shot.
I love the art from both Paco Medina and Marco Checchetto is also top notch.
I only wish this contained the last three issues of Avenging Spider-Man.
Spidey teams up with the X-Men and Thor as well and the storyline takes on a little menace (no, not that villainous character) when it is revealed that Ock is collecting and confining his former partners from the Sinister Six. Intriguing development. What will the villainous hero do?
Writer: Chris Yost
Artists: Paco Medina, Marco Checchetto (pencils), Juan Vlasco (inks), David Curiel, Rachelle Rosenberg (colors), Paolo Rivera, Marco Checchetto (covers)
Collects: Avenging Spider-Man #15.1, 16-19
This was one of those books that I hoped would be good, but that I really didn’t expect much from. I picked up a reader copy from the library because I am a huge fan of the new Superior Spider-Man title. It turns out that this was a good decision. This book was a fun and interesting read. Yost writes some nicely-crafted stories, here, and brings us a wide assortment of team-ups and character interactions. In order to write a good team-up book, the writer really has to have a great knowledge of the universe of characters that the story is taking place in, and Yost seems to have a firm grasp on the current status of the Marvel universe.
In this book, Spider-Man (aka Otto Octavius) teams up with characters from the X-Men and Fantastic Four, as well as with Thor and Sleepwalker. Talk about diversity! The stories are smartly written, interesting, funny, and really hit the mark for me. This little book was entertaining and a lot more fun than I expected it to be. I have no doubt that I will pick up the next book in this series when I get a chance. The bar has been set fairly high with this first volume, so my expectations for the next book in the series will also be fairly high.
Artwork on this book is also really good, and better than I expected it to be. I was particularly impressed with the work by Checchetto. I don’t know that I’ve ever read any books that he has illustrated, before, so I didn’t know how talented he is. Now that I know, I will have to search out other projects he has had a hand in.
This is a fun little book that is well worth your time to check out. Hopefully this series will last a while and won’t be a one-hit wonder. Even still, it is worth a read.
