DC put out two versions of this hardcover collection, but despite the larger size with the Facsimile Edition, I have to recommend the Deluxe Edition instead. The construction of this book is pretty shoddy. Within a few days of opening the shrink wrap the book had started to warp and bend. Eventually both covers formed a concave shape and the pages turned wavy. I only read the book once, and apparently being exposed to the air was enough to finish the job. I've had some similar problems with DC's standard-size hardcovers, but nothing as bad as this.

The story itself is a lot of fun in a campy, Silver Age way. I'm not huge on the new colors. Certain panels have a very eerie, digitized look to them. But it's definitely a story worth reading regardless of your fondness for the original comic. Just not in this particular format.

For the technical people: The paper is glossy and the binding is sewn. The art has been recolored, but the work is excellent and makes the line art look amazing.

Beautiful book. Things I like are the hardback covers, incredible coloring, and the large size of the pages that make the art pop.

I have the original graphic novel, and I appreciate that DC recolored the artwork and printed it on quality white paper. Some people object to the recoloring. Not me.

The thing I would change would be to have slightly thicker paper. If the pages were just a little beefier I would have given the book five stars.

Thanks to DC Comics for making this available again! I once owned the original "All-New Collectors Edition C-56" when this was first released; it's nice to now purchase a more durable, recolored copy of this classic confrontation. I remember when some of the "Famous First Editions" were also issued in hardcover, so this takes me back to those days. O'Neil, Adams, Giordano and Austin produced a tale that works best in tabloid size, so I opted to spend the extra money, rather than buy the Deluxe reissue. Hope DC does this again soon!
