i like it

I used to watch this show as a kid and still talk about it today. Trying to explain this show to someone who has never seen it, is the hardest thing ever. While this may not be the original 90's version, I will still take it. This show is amazing and just as action packed as I remember. I wish that this is one game show they would bring back.

Back in the 90's and early 2000's, we saw game shows go into different directions. They mostly left major networks because of declines in ratings and headed to cable television. Only very few constants like Wheel Of Fortune Jeopardy and The Price Is Right still remained. But one game show that saw a surprising revival was Supermarket Sweep. The Lifetime then Pax TV game show spurred a new audience, and was feel-good TV. Host David Ruprecht hit the nail on the head with comedy, wit and down to Earth fun. Watching the Pax TV episodes on Amazon Prime is fun and challenging at the core. There are so many memories I have watching people grabbing bonus toys, props of supermarket logos like The Jolly Green Giant for a chance at winning $5,000 which was big in cable game shows then. I do wish though Amazon Prime would air the 1992-1994 seasons with the Twin Car Giveaway and vacation week giveaways to France and Cruises To Paradise. Considered Supermarket Sweep is the only game show to ever hit 1,000 episodes to date, and the fun has never gotten old. I loved watching these shows, and I suggest you get a cart and go run your own sweep after watching this show.

I confess that I was indirectly influenced to eventually see this Supermarket Sweep Season 2000 show after watching a slightly related show via Food Network (Guy’s Grocery Games). This Supermarket Season 2000 show is interesting to watch and seeing the contestants get money awards based on certain guesses of prices and naming brands related to the question unexpectedly helped me understand much more than I was initially expecting to (for instance the obvious of helping me understand how some of today’s popular brands were obviously well known even then etc.) Seeing the contestants compete for money based on the amount and type of groceries they get and getting to hear how a multiple number of the contestants met each other, their jobs also added to the intrigue of watching Supermarket Sweeps Season 2000.

For some reason, I always took pleasure in watching people run around a supermarket hurling giant hams and turkeys into shopping carts. I watched the show during its run on Lifetime and occasionally on PAX TV when I was a kid. So I was definitely surprised when I discovered that Supermarket Sweep was on Amazon Prime. I then proceeded to watch the twenty available episodes over roughly a week period. While sometimes the shows of our youth, lose their luster in adulthood, I am happy to report that this did not happen with Supermarket Sweep.

A thirty one year old man really should not be having restrain himself from screaming at the computer screen as they race through the market searching for the five thousand dollars or chirping the wrong answer at those surprisingly frustrating scrambled product names, but yet I was. Even those little cartoony bonuses got to me. It was like I was a little kid again watching these people sprint through the market. The only question I have left is:

I have been perusing your vintage game show section for a few weeks. I always wondered if this show would come on here, but didn't think it would. I watched Youtube for supermarket sweep episodes and the quality for most is bad. When I saw this game on the queue, I nearly passed out. I've been binge watching ever since. What memories! This was a show I ALWAYS looked forward to. Thank you AMAZON! This so makes my subscription worth it. Can't wait for more seasons!

So, not really. But, it is corny as hell and lots of fun. I think this used to be on a network called PAX and maybe even TLC. This is the perfect type of show if you want to turn off your brain and just stare at something, which is most people watch TV or movies in the first place. If you are expecting a great game show like Jeopardy or 25,000 Pyramid, you'll be disappointed. However, if you just want a big bowl of schmaltz, then you are in luck.
