Non-Fiction and you still can't believe it! One of the most unique life stories you will ever see. Circumstance, Happenstance and Chance make Sheps life one of the most unique you will ever get a view into. I smiled in wonder the entire time watching it. I wish I was Sheps friend.
The only downside to the dvd is there are NO bonus features. Lots of interviews and stories so surely there was a lot left that didn't make the film. So a many more stories or details would have been appreciated to see.

I heard about this on and episode of Marc Maron's podcast with Mike Myers and immediately bought it on how interesting it sounded. Although it can be a little repetitive in some spots the story of how this dude puts his clients of friends and family before himself is inspiring. Going in with little to no information about Shep would be the best way to view this, though even if you are familiar with his clients and the great things he's accomplished throughout his career this is still a great feel good watch about a truly great guy looking out for his clients and their art.

I first saw this on Netflix and had to have it for my video library! This is a fascinating guy that has led, and continues to lead, a most interesting life. You have to see it to believe it !! Mike Myers did a remarkable job producing and directing this biography. I don't want to spoil it for you by describing any of the crazy antics or celebrities that share their favorite stories about Shep. Trust me.. I'm a hard one to please and this true story is so compelling you won't want it to end. You'll just want to follow this guy around to see what he's up to next.

Shep Gordon is an amazing guru with a sound buisiness-maketing mind with a slightly twisted but ethical phillosophy on life. His intimacy issues are the only thing that kept him from achieving a higher degree of joy and true happiness. Being a rather obsessed Alice Cooper fan, I've known about Shep for quite some time, but only as Alice's long term manager. He's been an essential and (up to now) background character to my favourite rock star's career - and it turns out he has as much of an interesting and unlikely story as Alice. I didn't know about his involvement with the Dalai Lama, or the sheer scope of his reach when it comes to business and friendships. A bit of an enigma, too - on one side shrewd businessman and on the other, an open and honest man, ex drug dealer and creator of managed, well organised chaos. Risking his life, putting himself in danger for the good of fair business.

You wouldn't think this was Mike Myer's first debut as a maker of a documentary film - it flows through with all the right pacing and interest that you would easily think it was put together by someone who had done 1000's of these before.

I really enjoyed the unique footage that was captured here - backstage, day to day activities, interviews etc. Something like this could have just been made by stock images and footage with the occasional interview clip here and there to tell the same story. No, they really made sure to go out and get real-life footage that set Shep in the modern day, bringing it all to life and making it infinitely better.

What I would mention, however, is the title. It hints to this film's flaw that I recognise as being something that stops me putting this down as 5 stars. The film can be somewhat embarrassingly focused on how great Shep is. It dangered on being less of a documentary on Shep's story and more a song and dance of a love-fest on how wonderful he is. We can arrive at the same conclusion about his warmth and talent without it being spelled out to us, not just in the movie but as the title of the whole thing. It's self evident and becomes too loaded with this title. Shep seems to show embarrassment to how this is named, and I wouldn't be surprised if he had to use it in the title of his own autobiography after the release of the doc to tie the book in with it.
