I do think there is some kind of miracle involved in mass producing Superplexus with each one being exactly the same. I personally turn off the sound since I find it too frantic, but I do like to keep the timer running which records the present and high scores.
I think you can still get Superplexus for around $20 at Ebay. Keep checking for it and you'll find one at a reasonable price.
As to quality, this one is very good. The only problem I've had was with one where a swinging piece didn't swing smoothly. This particular one has only one such piece (yellow swing 35)and it sometimes catches. The solution I find is to tap the sphere on the table gently to get the swing over the blue hole.
This Superplexis is electronic and has sound effects that make it exciting to play with. There are 100 positions along the way of completing the maze, and three start positions;easy, medium and real challenging. The 2 half spheres are held together by 6 screws, allowing for it to be taken apart in the rare case of the steel ball getting jammed. This is unlikely to happern unless subjected to very rough use or very severe dropping.
The electronics are powered by 3 "AAA" or "LR03 batteries.Don't fret about the batteries as they seem to last forever. There is a small blue-green cover above the speaker that can be opened by removing one tiny screw with a "STAR" mini screwdriver. The electronics provies Complexity Levels and scores.A real good light source is very beneficial when playing with this maze, particularly for reading the positions along the maze route, reading the score indication or the info on the basttery cover. There are small buttons to control sound, score, power and reset.
