The sleeve is nice and cute. It compresses the knee which I needed, but I don't think a compressor is all I need. But this is not a reflection on the item itself. It's a really good sleeve. I think I just need to work on my knee some more.
I'm a 40-yr old, 6ft0, 175lbs guy with slight pain in my left knee joint. I ordered the Blue color, size Medium. The sleeve arrives packaged inconspicuously and is made of Neoprene (the same material used for water bottle and laptop sleeves). It is easy to put on -- you just slide it on and up all the way until it sits over your knee. The compression sleeve provides good relief to my knee joint and lessens (or on some days, eliminates) the pain. It also allows for a good level of flexibility and allows me to bend the knee a little bit for walking, climbing the stairs up or down and bicycling. All in all, I like how it makes my knee feel better and how well it fits me. I take it off at night just to allow my leg to breathe, by the way. The only gripe I have about this (for which I've given it 4 stars) is that it makes the knee sweat a bit. I'm a hairy person and I like cooler weather/attire and I guess the sleeve doesn't allow my skin to breathe easily causing it to sweat in it. Overall, a decent sleeve to have but wishing it was a bit "cooler".
After years of wear and tear on my husbands knees from skateboarding, snowboarding, jiu jitsu my husbands knees are often resulting in pain and swelling. So, we looked online for a knee support that would help with his mobility while exercising, and using his knee extensively. We came across this Knee Sleeve, and it fit the bill for what we wanted.
Something, that would allow the knee to bend and move but still allow for compression so that the swelling would stay down to a minimal. My husband is 5’7” and weighs 155. We bought the Medium I was hoping it would fit me to but at 5’3” and weighing around 170ish it simply didn’t work for me. No worries though it worked perfectly for him.
When we first got it we put it to the test, my husband moved his brother in law and wore it for approximately 8 hours while moving. When he was done, he wasn’t in pain and he experienced no swelling. Which was wonderful because even in the past an hour of exercise has often resulted in extreme pain and/or swelling. I did examine the quality of the sleeve and it is well made, ad sewn together. The stitching is even. I did wash it to see if it could be put through the washer and it washed up beautifully, I did NOT put it in the dryer though. I let it hang dry for 24 hours and it came out great with out breaking down, stitching coming undone, or anything else noticeable. I was given this product at a reduced rate in exchanged for my honest opinion and review of this product and I give it a 5 out of 5 stars. It works the way it is suppose to, held up well, is well made, and decreased the pain and swelling my husband has often experienced. So we are very please with this product and I did buy one that was bigger in pink for me so that I could exercise better with a little less pain in my left knee.
I've tried other RIMSports products and LOVED them (especially the lifting gloves with attached wrist wraps, game changer for me), so when I saw they also make knee sleeves, I just had to get one. I've had knee issues for much of my life, thanks to overuse and abuse through almost 30 years of sports, and having proper knee support as I start to increase the weight I'm lifting is very important. I haven't done much with knee braces in the past because my more recent sports and fitness classes weren't really putting heavy weight strain on the knees but as soon as I started a more serious weightlifting program, I could feel a need for some support.
The knee sleeve is probably the right size (I measured and purchased what should be proper) but I struggle to pull it on and off. Honestly, that's probably good - a sleeve that is too loose won't provide much support, right? But I DO have to be able to get it on, and it's more of a struggle than I think it should be. Also, once the brace is on, it's uncomfortably tight at the ends (around my lower thigh and upper calf). The tightness gets unbearable at various points in my range of motion, such as the low point of a squat, at which time the edges of the brace dig into my skin. When I take the brace off (very, very hard to do when it's sweaty), there are deep impressions in my skin from the stitching and edges.
So why do I think I have the right size if it seems too tight? Well, because I DID notice some extra support on my knee. I can sometimes feel my patella slipping a bit (I have worn away most of the cartilage that keeps it in place) when I'm exercising, but I don't feel this way when I'm wearing the brace. Technically that's the whole point of the brace! I'd love to give it more than two stars because it sure seems to be effective, but I simply can't get myself to practically cut off my circulation and sacrifice range of motion for the bit of support it does give. It's much easier and more comfortable to slightly modify my workout to accommodate my injury.
It's possible this is exactly the product someone else might be looking for, but it definitely isn't what I wanted despite the high quality of the material and the fact that it does actually provide some support. I'm going to continue searching for the best fit for me and my needs.
