5.0 out of 5 stars Yes, You Can Use These For Sound Treatment
By R. W. Harobed on September 17, 2019
I bought these to use ... not for their intended purpose. I like to record stuff, and I've been looking for ways to improve my recording space. I've heard of other people using moving blankets, foam tiles, etc. to improve their space, so I thought I'd give these a try (besides, it's a great excuse to build a blanket fort!).

At $5/blanket, I figured these would be the best buy, even if I had leftovers. I ended up using all of them for my little makeshift recoding booth, but I'm pleased with the results. The noise floor for my mic (at the time of the upgrade) fell by a solid 5dbs, which isn't a ton, but enough to make a difference. And then I switched to an XLR mic and my noise floor is right around -80dB, which is plenty if you're working on stuff like audiobooks, where most places req a noise floor that's more like -60dB. (Obviously, there are a bunch of variables that go into your noise floor, so do the best you can with however you use these blankets. I suggest layering. It seems to be working for me.)

A few things to be aware of. They DO smell. I washed all of my blankets before using them. This did two things--first, it fluffed up the blankets, which is a plus in my book, considering how I'm using them. And second, just one or two blankets totally filled up the lint trap on my dryer. So be aware and make sure to clean that puppy out!

Also. These aren't made from super awesome high-quality fabric. They seem to be fashioned from that sort of disposable "fabric" that you sometimes see in hospitals--like what medical masks are made from, but a more sturdy version. I definitely wouldn't go putting any spare blankets on my bed.

My bottom line? If you have a microscopic budget like me and want to improve your recording space, I think these blankets are a great place to get started. They're not the end-all, be-all, but they're adequate as you're building up to bigger and better things. :)

3.0 out of 5 stars Somewhat Thin
By Mitymom on March 21, 2019
They did what I wanted, but for most people who want to move, I would say they're thin and the user may be better off going to Harbor Freight Tools and getting the ones there. These are definitely NOT for multiple or professional moves. However, I wanted something I owned to wrap up my bookcase because the movers were putting it in storage. The bookcase was well protected because the movers first wrapped these blankets around it, then cardboard around the glass parts, then used stretch wrap around it all. I noticed a few small tears in the fabric but since it went from my house, on the truck, traveled 1600 miles then to storage, they worked ok. When I move my stuff out and into my new home I'll pack the blankets away until I need them for something else (hopefully never, because I HATE moving).
