This book was, in my opinion, the best of the Surrender to Destiny series. It is set during the war of 1812 in Baltimore and she does a fine job of portraying the history of the time. I love history and she makes it come alive. During the British march on Washington and the battle at Fort McHenry, the author makes you feel as if you are there! There are also some fascinating tidbits that would ruin the reader who hasn't read the book yet, so I'll keep quiet.
Both Cassandra and Luke have turned their backs on God due to circumstances in their lives. But God is right there, ready to welcome them back and even encouraging them through the folks around them. He shows them in many ways that there are no coincidences for the believer in life, but God's hand at work in all things to bring good out of every situation.
There is adventure, excitement, romance and deep spirituality in this book. Tyndall writes mainly pirate books and she is supreme in this field. I felt my heart racing as Luke set out after the British merchant ship to take as a privateer during the war. The descriptions of what is going on are vivid and vibrant, so realistic I almost felt as if I were on the ship with the wind blowing in my face and the sea spray flying up on me!
And Luke Heaton? What can I say about him? He was the most romantic hero of all her books. I think he would set any woman's heart aflutter, in any age.
I'm only sad that I have to wait till June 2012 for her next book. You will not go wrong in buying and reading this book. It will be one you'll want to keep to re-read again.
I really appreciated the faith affirming thread, woven throughout this novel. I enjoyed the history on which MaryLou crafted her story. This is a book anyone could read from age 16 to 92 and I highly recommend it .
I would recommend this trilogy for all who like well written, honest, thought provoking works of clean literature.
