What I can tell for sure is that Jaimie never tells the same story twice. Don’t expect “Dark Jaimie” here because you won’t find her.
I would not tell its “Sweet Jaimie” either because there is a twist you won’t see coming in the multiple epilogues that will have you thinking “Oh wow! I never would have guessed. That’s twisted and unnerving”.
So let’s talk about my issues and have them out of the way.
The first 35% I could absolutely not stand Alice, our main female character. I hate doormat heroine and that’s what she was for her @hole of a husband. He was clearly deranged and a sex addict.
Ok she was a virgin when they met but what he did with her was clearly not acceptable. And yet each time she bended. She was self-sacrificing and offering to be a surrogate for her best friend. A Saint you say? An idiot I reply!
So I was mad with the heroine and I could not stand her husband either. I really thought I would not finish this book. Yet I went through and crossed my fingers.
Now at about 35% we go into the nitty gritty of this novel. Finally, something’s happening and it’s suddenly a new ballgame! I won’t say I loved Alice because I did not. I admired her sometimes, I pitied her, I cheered for her but I did not love her. The main reason was even if she stood up for herself she still was too “meek” and soft for my taste. Now tastes are always personal so you might end loving her. I found her too good if such a thing is possible. But that’s who Alice is so Jaimie stayed true to her character.
I loved Ethan, the good doctor. He was nearly too good to be true. And of course Sarah played the evil villain somehow. The one you’ll want to beat up and say “well deserved” for what will happen to her.
What saved the book really was the ending or even better the “after-ending” if it’s a word. I was taken aback and thought “WOW!”.
Now for all my complaint I’ve still read this book in one sitting today. So Jaimie must have done something right again. It’s always the same with me and her books, even those I don’t “love” I can’t stop reading them till the end because she has something that’s always compel me to read.
Now make up your mind with this one ;-)

This is the story of four main characters Alice and Kyle and Sarah and Ethan. Alice offers to be a surrogate for Sarah and Ethan who are desperate for a child. Although Alice has wanted a baby of her own for a while, her husband Kyle is not so keen, so being the loving considerate person that she is, she wants to give her friends the ultimate gift of life because she loves her best friend Sarah and hates to see her so upset. A wonderful gift to them both and nothing could go wrong - or could it ?
I loved all the characters in their own way although there were times that Alice came across as weak and should have been stronger and that I didn't much care for. Kyle - an arrogant demanding man with only one opinion and that was his and if Alice didn't abide by that all hell broke loose, his temper and attitude out of control.
Loved Ethan of course because who wouldn't; successful doctor, kind, good looking, considerate - the perfect husband. Sarah I really couldn't make my mind up about her, but not everything is as it seems and Jaimie Roberts words keep you turning those pages and your sitting there and thinking " Yep I know where this is going, I know what is going to happen" and then she does her party trick and sprinkles that devious little twist into the book when you aren't expecting it and just when you think your on the home straight - your left opened mouthed and looking around the room mouthing what the actual F*** !!!!!!!!
This is what I love about Jaimie's books, when you pick one up to read you never know where it is going to take you and that is what is such fun, so addictive - the anticipation is everything.
Yes this book is not as dark as her other books but the story is so good, the characters so alive and so real with emotions flowing from every page.
Awesome stuff and a MUST read !!!!
This book drew so many emotions from me and in one scene I was borderline blubbering. We have four main characters in this book. Alice, Kyle, Sarah and Ethan although it is told from Alices POV. Alice is such a gentle soul who would do anything for anyone. Ethan is a doting man who is successful and wants nothing more than his own family. Then there are Kyle and Sarah.
I don't want to say too much because it will spoil it for you, but what I will say is be prepared because in true Jaimie style, she puts a twist in there where you least expect it.
A glorious 5 stars and more from me. I am surprised that not more people have reviewed this book yet....its a belter in my opinion.
I had a love hate relationship with the character's. I loved the chemistry between Alice and Ethan. And the last chapter in Ethan's pov helped me understand him so much better.
Sarah and Kyle I could not stand them!
I was hooked on this book right from the first line. I highly recommend this book and cannot wait to read more work by this author!
