This lighter will function well with just the slightest bit of work. First the threads are kind of loose, but not so loose that the cap isn't functional. Second issue is with the rubber seal. It's a good idea in theory but the one that comes with it is pretty flimsy. I suspect the people who claim that the lighter leaks are victims of the very flimsy rubber seal. Fortunately all is not lost! With a little effort this lighter can be modified to work beautifully. You want to take the lighter down to a hardware store and buy a new O-ring. The diameter of the new one should be 2-3 sizes smaller than the seal it came with, so that you have to stretch it into place. Second you want to buy a little bottle of Locktite super glue. The glue is about $5.00 and the O-ring's about $.70. Simply shoot a little glue bead around the lighter where the previous seal sat and push your O-ring into place. You'll notice that the O-ring is quite a bit fatter than the previous seal. It's supposed to be. That makes for a much better seal as well as makes the seal sturdy enough that you can twist the cap down tight so it doesn't come loose without damaging your seal!

I bought this lighter for backpacking and as an emergency backup, and couldn't be more pleased. When I first got it, I filled it with standard lighter fluid, lit it, and everything worked great. As a test, I put it in my pocket and every day, I lit the lighter and let it burn for one minute. There is no leaking or evaporating fuel with this lighter, so it'll be perfect for the BOB or backpack. My test lasted for a week, and there was still enough fuel to smell and light.

This lighter is little - 25.8 grams, filled. 5 cm - about 2 inches (counting the little key chain knob) long and 1.5 cm or just over .5 inches in diameter. The size may be a bit small for some people to easily light, but it's perfect for an emergency backup or to throw in your backpack on a back-country trip.

Ok I know everyone on here is all sunshine an roses in their reviews but I have to throw out the BS Flag on these things. I am not a smoker, nor do I often have use for a lighter. However I do like to be prepared and thought this would be a great addition to my EDC so I ordered one. It arrived and I was so impressed with the size and appearance of quality I immediately went back online and ordered 2 more, for my emergency bags. I filled them all and a week or two later I actually needed a flame for something simple. So I whipped out my handy dandy peanut lighter that I had yet to actually have a use for yet. And low and behold, all spark, no flame. It was out of fuel. So I went to my backpack and checked the backup I had bought. No dice. So when I got home I checked the remaining peanut lighter and the zippo that I had purchased around the same time. Also No Joy, they were out of fuel as well. However the bic that I found on the ground over 8 years ago and just threw into the bottom of my bag is still going strong. So if someone can please give me a reason why I'd want to stake my "survival" on one of these things, I'm all ears. Also if I've made a bone-head lighter newbie mistake please advise me of it as I really want to like these things.

Side note: Yes I did fill them with fuel as per the instructions. Yes the O-Ring is installed and not pinched when tightened. And yes I did a retest. I filled all of them with fuel again and tested to make sure that I got a good flame the first day. Then I left them sitting on the table for 2 weeks and again they were all out of fuel.

This thing does everything a zippo does, only without the need to constantly replace evaporated fuel. Excellent for long term storage and perfectly reliable.

Works great as long as you dont put it in your pocket. There are so few threads it comes umscrewed. also the screws are so loose and cheaply made ,it doesnt stay together.

I would have easily given this lighter five stars. It was actually hands down my favorite go-to outdoors 'survival' lighter, being that it worked exactly as it should being small, solid, watertight, and reliable. The fact that it was all these things while being very inexpensive made it my favorite.
I had none of the problems other people claim as far as threads loosening, not staying together, or with fuel escaping and evaporating. It worked perfectly..until I put a new flint in.
Zippo flints absolutely do not fit the lighter I received. The diameter of the tube which holds the flint is too small. The flint fits into the bottom, but gets completely jammed and pinched inside toward the top, so the spring cannot hold the flint against the striking wheel. There's no getting it back out, so the only option other than throwing the lighter in the garbage is to shove a paper clip or similar object into the tube and (with great effort) forcing the flint against the wheel and then putting it back together which allows maybe a few strikes until it has to be repeated in order to keep using it. It goes without saying that this is a ridiculous hassle.
A potentially perfect lighter with a fatal design or manufacturing flaw. The non-replaceability of the flint makes it a disposable lighter, and that's certainly not what it's supposed to be. Perhaps Ronson flints are a smaller diameter and would fit, but after buying a package of 30 Zippo flints specifically for this lighter because it had worked so well, I got screwed twice and am not about to buy more of a different brand just to see if they'll work.
Very disappointing. The first time I've ever had to rate a product one star.
