Your Doomsday May Only Affect You - Prepare Anyway!
The firstpreparedness book I ever read was the original edition of The SurvivalRetreat by Ragnar Benson. We've come a long way since that seminal work in the preparedness genre, and Richard Duarte's efforts with this bookclearly advance the discussion of this vital topic.
When we think of "Doomsday," we tend to think of it as something that affects largesections of the population. The reality, however, is that a trueemergency can be a doomsday for just one individual or family. A housefire, a serious injury while using power tools, an automobile accident - these can create devastating results for someone just as easily as amassive disaster might.
It's clear Duarte gets that. If you're a "grab a gun and pray for the opportunity to have shoot outs with yourneighbors when the crisis goes down" kind of prepper, you will be sadlydisappointed by his rational, logical thought process on how to create a sustainable preparedness plan for you and your family. If you arelooking for a systematic approach to preparedness, however - one drivenby actual testing and experience and not by hype - Surviving Doomsdayneeds to be on your bookshelf.
The gift Duarte gives his readershere is that there isn't a list of expensive items to go purchase. Heprovides multiple options for supplies and strategies for a wide rangeof budgets, making Surviving Doomsday that much more useful. He alsostresses the need to "execute the basics well" as I like to say - stayhealthy, get check ups, keep your home and vehicles maintained. Whilethese may not seem exciting activities to someone getting prepared, they are absolutely necessary - and Duarte clearly demonstrates that.
I highly recommend this book.

From the Author
"There are no guarantees in life, but after any major disaster two separate and distinct groups will emerge - the Prepared and the Unprepared. It's up to you which group you'll belong to. As far as I'm concerned, the ultimate measure of this book's success will be how many people it can help guide into the "Prepared group."
