I was given this book in return for an honest review.
Dark... When there is love and violence mixed together the highs and lows are hard to avoid… Dana’s life is blessed with daughters she adores and a man who is everything that they could love and depend on. Considering her history in love, that risk was huge but resulted in more than she could have hoped for. Dana’s ex-husband, unfortunately, is still a threat to all she holds dear. Dana is trying to build a new life which Ian is determined to thwart at every turn. Forced into hiding, Dana and her family has to run, away from the violence and pain but also the greatest joy she’s ever known…
Despite all the brutality and fear, and the unpredictability of a man who is determined to perpetuate it, Dana is going to overcome. Taking drastic steps to keep her and her girls safe, the new life she has is going to help them as well as others in their same situation. The violence, the pain, the suffering – nothing is held back as the story unfolds to reveal the goodness, and the evil, that lurks in the world. There were a few horrified gasps here and there as the brutality intruded on what was, at the heart, a beautiful love story.
I admit the writing style seemed disjointed and jumpy in spots which was difficult to navigate at times though the story pushed me on. What Dana and her family go through is unimaginable yet we all know it happens all too frequently. That reality is harsh and violent, almost soulless in its disregard for human emotion and life. Logan is a man who, just by the love he feels, becomes a hero. My heart was in my throat many times as the violence wasn’t hidden but in your face, the intensity and emotion impossible to avoid.
Not for the faint of heart…
**Reviewed for Nerdy, Dirty & Flirty**
This subject matter was I imagine very hard to write for the author, especially if she lived it. If she did live it then I hope this was her way of purging this from her life and is onto better things. I was amazed this is her first book, and I think she did a beautiful job with this book. It was so close to being a five star for me and i think with her next book she may reach that extra star. She wrote this book with compassion, strength, and clairity. Some of the things Ian did to Dana were very hard to read and understand. The fear these women lived with daily came through in her writing loud and clear! They felt weak but in reality they were strong and able and able to protect the children when it came down to it even though Ian had a gun! Now that is what I call brave! I hope the author is living a better, and a happy life if she is the one who lived through this and has found a man like Logan to live and be happy with.

Dana is a survivor of domestic abuse but now she lives in fear always looking over her shoulder for her scumbag of an ex, but not wanting to live in fear for her or her girls she heads to Scotland for her daughter's 10th birthday and to hook up with Logan (the hot Scot) and father to one of her daughter's but he treats both as his own.
Now living in Manchester in a refuge with three other women who have all suffered at the hands of their partners. But after Ian (scumbag ex) finds out where Dana is staying he will stop at nothing to get her back. But with Logan and her old school friend Lee track her down but not wanting to put Logan in anymore trouble and as much as it pains her she thinks he will be better off without her but he is stubborn (most scotsman are) and he wants a life with Dana and the kids he doesn't give up on her. But whilst having girls night Dana hears something and now they are trapped on the refuge and with nowhere to run they lock themselves in the basement.
Will help get to them in time? Will Ian ever be caught or will he get away with what he has done again?
Very well written book based on fact and fiction. I felt I could relate to this story as I had a similar upbringing to Dana I saw it through the eyes of the child. So a lot of this story hit home and it shows no matter what people can survive domestic abuse if they know where to get help and have friends that will be there when it matters the most.
But I will say I did really enjoy the story..
I do think it was written well considering the subject of the storyline but i feel like it could have had a little more in certain parts of the story to add to it.
Dara is trying to escape a life she hated and wanted left behind but it never seemed to stay away for long..
Logan is the man that everyone would want in their lives.. hot strong loveable and dependable. He is just perfect for Dara and her girls.
Would love to read the stories next of Lee and hopefully Declan too!
Be sure to read the warning first though as it may have triggers for some readers.
Dana ~ She is the epitome of what a survivor is. After suffering not just mental but physical abuse too at the hands of Ian. She's left with no choice but to try and herself as far away as possible and ends up meeting Logan, who, might i add is SUPER SEXY !! But she is constantly looking over her shoulder because of Ian and doesn't want to put anyone else in harms way even though she loves Logan so much she won't commit.
What ensues is a tale of heartbreak and angst.
Dawn has done an amazing job of managing to get all the emotions through to the reader, making you feel the pain Dana goes through but also added some seriously sexy and some rather funny moments into the mix too. Loved it !!
Dana has had an awful life at the hands of her violent husband.
Even when she leaves, she's never really free.
Meeting a lovely man she yearns for happiness, but can she have it.? Will she ever be free from her past?
This book covers the awful topic of domestic violence and the effects it has on the whole family.
Unfortunately this subject is all to real, and lots of women suffer at the hands of their partners, fearing for their lives on a daily basis.
Dawn A Keane has dealt with this situation well in this story, she's showed even though it's difficult you can survive..
A good book, I admired Danas courage throughout she showed you can't let these monsters win.
Looking forward to book 2
