This is no romance nor passion in this book. When the love making scene occurs between Lou and Johan it was not sexy but rather made me uncomfortable. There was too much time spent on him as an abused child and in the present with his aversion to being touched to be anything else for me. Also Johan's flirting with OW including Eve, Lou's sister, bothered me. Not only did it upset Lou and Eve's boyfriend but I believe that his excessive flirting was a result of his sexually abuse based on what I have read.
"I have a feeling you are going to be my elixir, my drug."
Surviving Love is book two in the Surviving series. It is the first book I have read by Author Ada Frost. It is a friends to lovers novel like no other.
"No one is ever grateful for me being in their lives, they live to regret it if anything."
We are merely pages in when we begin to get a picture of Chase's family, the dynamics, and sense that some things are not what they seem, especially with his Grandpa...
"My momma had stop coming in my dreams, she didn't call out either. She had completely left me."
The heartbreak I felt at these words is inexplicable. A poor, young boy left alone to manage for himself in some of the most horrid and unforgiving situations. He had no choice in the life he was given, and it seemed only more heartache was to come.
Ellie was the secondary character that gave us the much-needed break.
"...you're like water, you penetrate through the tiny cracks, no matter how hard I fight it, you always win."
Louise (Lou) was the calm for this storm. She was quick-witted and sassy, but was a warm and caring person. Having her own burdens to bear, a change in direction for her life was needed, but the cost of this was in question.
"You're the light I've been desperately seeking. It would kill me to see it fade."
There was everything to love and noting to hate about Surviving Love. Author Ada Frost wrote words that fused my being to the characters. There was not one page that was turned in which this connection was broken. It continued with every word and, it seems, will remain with me for some time. The delicate nature with which critical and crippling past events were told had my emotions at a low.Read more ›
Johan was able to hide his damaged self by adopting a fun, playboy persona who flirts with all the ladies, but all that changes the night he saves Evelyn. And now Lou, who loves and sees the sweet, tender man for who he really is, doesn't know how to save him. All the scars of Johan's traumatic past from his tormentor has come back to haunt Johan’s mind and soul.
Johan and Lou’s romance is so beautiful. The way Johan loves Lou and the baby she is carrying. Yes, Lou is pregnant with her jerk of a boyfriend's baby, who decided he’s not ready for the whole daddy thing. Johan just takes my breath away with the love he has for Lou's baby who's not even born yet. Yes, Johan is a sweetheart, and that’s also why my heart breaks for him.
I have to toughen my skin when I read Ada Frost novels. She totally shatters my heart, but I would not miss one minute of the tears, the heart break, and the joy she gives me while reading her novels, and the love she gives her characters. I highly recommend Surviving Love.
