In a strange coincidence, good vs. evil emerges as a major theme this season in Earth's Last Eden – the seventeenth season of Survivor. "I think the audience will quickly identify with one group or the other," host Jeff Probst teases.
Overwhelming hunger puts alliances in jeopardy as large appetites combined with dwindling rations create an immediate air of resentment at one camp. After a power-drunk castaway decides to take the game into his own hands, the tribes endure a challenge that comes down to a nail-biting showdown. Good and evil are truly on full-display, as one castaway attempts to use guilt to gain control of an ally, while another makes a lifetime commitment in a surprisingly intimate gesture. Will the group of deceitful castaways outlast those who play from their heart or will the forces of good prevail? Will temptations interfere with logical decision-making? Most importantly, who will survive?
Shocking tribal councils, crafty use of immunity-idols, and sudden ends to powerful alliances will leave you on the edge of your seat. Find out whether good guys really do finish last in SURVIVOR: GABON on DVD.

There were plenty of blindsides, as well as a lot of arguing and bickering to make this season of Survivor an interesting one. If you like the drama from the show, this season is a good choice.
The 18 contestants represent a good cross section, with no physically imposing types. The members of the Kota and Fang tribes are initially selected by the contestants themselves, followed by two reshuffles. Alliances which are usually a major factor, seem less significant this time.
There are a few annoying contestants, but thankfully most of them are eliminated early. Those that do remain near the end, Kenny, Sugar, Susi, Bob, and Matty, are mostly likeable. Bob’s run of winning five consecutive immunity challenges is impressive, but it is Susi’s strong finish late which carries her to the final three. Bob’s fate appears to be sealed, until Sugar’s vote gives him life. Apparently host Jeff Probst and many fans of Survivor do not regard Gabon very highly, and had a close Jury vote gone another way, I might agree.
Contestant comments and jury questions are often provocative, and led by Randy, Corinne, Ace, and Crystal, this season is no exception. For a gold medal winning Olympic sprinter, Crystal’s performance in challenges is a bit underwhelming, like when she drops out of a running event. She might have been handicapped by the large chip she was carrying on her shoulder. Assessing people by how they are presented on Survivor may be unfair, but on the Reunion show, Randy and Corrine continue to remain abrasive.
Shelter isn’t a major factor, as the camps feature some prebuilt huts, and the weather is moderate.Read more ›
