This book was super helpful for my kids. My learning knitters are age 10 to 14. They mastered the basics from this book and made each other fingerless gloves, scarves, and little hats for Christmas. The lessons were easy to understand and had great pictures and illustrations accompanying them. Susan Anderson has a great understanding of explaining knitting in a way the layman can understand. She also has videos on youtube that are helpful and match up with her words from this book. This book took the frustration out of learning a new skill for my kids.

I am a huge fan of Susan B. Anderson's designs and all of her other books. I anticipated liking this book -- but it's even better than I expected it would be! I wish this book would have been available when I taught my nieces and nephews to knit over the years. It would have helped build their confidence to see every step broken down so clearly and illustrated so well. I'm really excited, though, that I'll have it to teach my own son and the younger nieces when they're ready to learn. The instructions and illustrations are all so clear, and it's arranged so that the projects progress naturally through the various skills needed to become a skilled knitter. The projects include hats, a scarf, a bracelet, and toys that kids will like to make for themselves or others. I'll probably make some of them myself. This book is very nicely done and a great value!

A really good beginners knitting book. Easy and fun projects for several stages of learning. Book is directed to children but I feel that most kids will need an adult to help follow the instructions. Most important this is a book that utilizes circular knitting needles for hats socks knitting in the round. No real projects for straight knitting. The book does show how to use round needles for flat knitting but really why? Just use straight needles.

This sturdy introduction to knitting is lavishly illustrated and starts the reader at the very beginning.

The projects are reasonable for the expertise level of the intended audience.

I wanted to teach my daughter to knit and this book has helped her. The pictures are really good and helpful to learn from. The projects are cute and if your child is like mine or most people really, knitting is most fun when the goal is a finished project not just a swatch. Most projects are good for boys or girls too i.e. puppet, hat, or cup cozy. Lots of good stuff. The binding is spiral bound and strong glossy paper. Very nice.

Children's books and tutorials often have straight-forward directions and this book is a true delight. The illustrations and directions are clear and the tips are many and excellent. There are beginner hats, scarves, bracelets, cowl, cozies and toy patterns, among others, and several different stitches to learn, such as basketweave. Susan suggests that around the age of ten (with exceptions) kids have enough patience and follow-through to learn to knit. Knitting is creative and useful in equal measure and rewarding for kids.

Seems like a very small book, not really impressed. I don't knit, but the images seem a bit small to me and crowded on the small pages, some colour would probably also help kids really see where the yarn is going (working yard is shaded light grey). Projects very unispired, but I guess they will certainly learn the basics - hat, headband (isn't that a hat that isn't closed?), 'bracelet' (like the edge of a hat that you don't finish...), jar cozy (like a narrow long headband...), leg warmers (like an extra long narrow headband...). This is the range of beginner to moderate to advanced projects. Fun kid things - pillow (like a hat that is closed square....), stuffed cat toy (like a mini-pillow...). If I had looked this over in a store I would not have selected it.
